Are you grammatically correct?

10/10, which is about what i expected. i'm an engineer, but i had an english major as a roommate and i was always helping him with his grammar and spelling - he constantly wondered why i decided to deal with numbers and theory instead of writing/language

My score:

Nice work!

Do you diagram sentences in your spare time? You got 9/10 correct.

The only incorrect answer that I made:

The correct answer: C were

Your answer: B was

"He acts as if he were the coolest guy in school."

Someone bring JohnsonBox! :D

Hmmm mate, didn't you act impudent, did you? Your score was just 6/10, while mine was 9/10! ;)

So remember, picking on JB's English grammar will be a lost cause! What I need to improve is to get accustomed to the usages that vary with different English speaking country. :)

They could have made that a bit more complicated... there were only 10 questions! Also, looking at a test and anylizing what the correct answer is when you have multiple choices, and simply writing out your thoughts in real-time are two very different things.

Ahem... no offense, but this may be a good time to point out the difference between knowing and understanding, if you catch my drift. Now, don't take that comment personally, I'm just stating an observation. Many people know the rules of the English language, and given a test where you get to pick the correct answer, will do rather well. On the other hand, many of those same people simply don't understand the pricipals well enough to apply them in their own writing and speaking. Also, our current culture seems to like to shorten everything, and dumb things down. FOr example: peaple know it's and its are different, but they are just too lazy to use the apostrophe.

One thing I cant stand at all is how some people dont know the difference from "than" and "then"

ie:

His dong is bigger then mine.

or

His dong is bigger than mine.

which is correct??

if you picked the first one, "then" you are wrong

That's it, I'm lazy and want to shorten anything too. But you'd better understand that is a test! That is, as common sense, any examinee wouldn't use his/her own informal usages in a test! Or s/he might be retarded :)

Yeah...

The point is, the person has limited choices, in this case, they have 3, and one is correct. It is much easier to "prove" you have great grammar on a test such as this than it is to display it in your actual writing. And trust me, I've seen many, many people score well on tests like these, and then when you tell them to write a full paragraph, you just stare at the page and can't believe how many errors they made involving the exact same problems presented on the test.

Now if only I could find a good example of this... :shifty:

Do you diagram sentences in your spare time? You got 8/10 correct.

Part of the problem was Q7 - is is often used incorrectly in Aus. English, as opposed to were.

4/10  i am only in year 7 :( and have a **** head english teacher we have had 7 differnet teachers this year alone

I'm in year 8 - my English teacher seems convinced that if a task doesn't involve an 'issue' then it's not worth doing. All I heard all year was anti-Bush and no war junk from her.

Anyhoo, I'm in the High Achievers' Program, so you'd expect something good of me- regardless of the teacher.
