Stokkolm
Newegg has a special right now on 240GB 730 Series SSDs for $179 each that I was going to capitalize on, but I thought I would check Best Buy first to try to get a price match. While they didn't have the 730 Series in-store, they did have a deal on Samsung EVO 250GB at $129 each. That seemed like a good price to me and I figured the Intel drives would only be marginally better, so I picked up two. I just got them installed last night in RAID-0 and my oh my what an upgrade even over the single 128GB SSD that I had in there! SSD's are getting CHEAP, I'm amazed at how the prices have fallen. The only part in my rig left that is a bit of a fail is the video card, I have a R7770. After seeing Techspot's review of the new GeForce 970 this morning, I think I'll be heading in that direction in the next month or so. Seems like the price/performance can't really be beaten right now. After that all I need is a second monitor and I will be happy for a few years! Because I like to share, here are the specs: CPU: Core i5 4670K MB: Asus Z87-PLUS Memory: G-Skill Ripjaw X 16GB 2133 HDD: 2x Samsung EVO 250GB in RAID-0 HDD: 2x Western Digital 1TB Video: XFX Radeon R7770 PSU: RAIDMAX RX-735AP 735W Case: Corsair Carbide 200R Display: 23" Asus VS238H-P
Draconian Guppy
The common advice around here is, if you don't plan to over clock, the K version isn't worth the price difference, however, if said difference was negligible, then go for it. Stokkolm
That's already been running in the system for close to a year, and it was about a $10 difference, so I wasn't worried about it. I also wasn't sure if I would be able to run my RAM at 2133Mhz without it, so that was a consideration as well.
Luc2k
Bad move with the 840 EVOs, although there might be a silver lining now.

Wait this thread was about the HDs, cause it confused me?
Stokkolm
Wait this thread was about the HDs, cause it confused me? Generally, it's about the entire system. The SSD's just prompted me to make a post.

Would have been a bad move on any Samsung SSD other than a Pro I guess. They'll get it fixed, and if they don't it's a warranty issue. I'm not worried. I'm not worried. Well, the 840 EVO is the only one having this particular issue. Hopefully it will be fixed, but it's going to cause the inconvenience of moving the data off the drives when the firmware update comes. And I'm not sure about warranty since Samsung just acknowledged the problem only several hours ago (the article was 2h old when I linked it) while the it's been reported for over a month. It will probably be fine in the end apart from the firmware update inconvenience, but it's better to research the products before buying so you don't run into stuff like this. First line of that article: During the last couple of weeks, numerous reports of Samsung SSD 840 and 840 EVO having low read performance have surfaced around the Internet. I did do my research, though I really only looked at benchmarks. I never came across anything about read speed issues. I primarily used Anandtech, but of course, this was just posted today.
