UK PS4 sales jump 300% in Destiny launch week

Data from retail monitor Chart-Track provided to MCV showed PS4 hardware enjoyed its biggest week of the year in the UK.

While actual sales figures weren't provided, PS4 reportedly outsold Xbox One hardware by two consoles to one, despite Microsoft's system also posting a significant week-on-week increase.

First week Destiny UK retail sales were split equally across all PlayStation and Xbox consoles, although the PS4 version accounted for 46 per cent of the total.

Publisher Activision partnered with Sony for the game's release. The title was officially bundled with Sony systems, including the first commercially available white PS4s, and backed by a significant PlayStation marketing campaign.

Destiny also launched with PlayStation exclusive in-game content in the form of a co-op mission and a competitive multiplayer map, plus a selection of guns, gear and ships.

The game's release had a significant impact on hardware adoption in North America too, where PS4 also posted its "biggest sales week" of 2014, according to Sony.

Additionally, the game broke records for being "the fastest purchased and most played PS4 game during its first week on sale", said PlayStation America's VP of developer and publisher relations Adam Boyes.

Just like in America I guess.
