Qii wireless charger suggestions and battery degradation questions?

Recommended Posts

Hey all, according to teh interwebz, the cover for my phone LG G3 (d855) brings the 4 prong connectors and is apparently Qii compatible... The phone I bought (unlocked) came with korean user manual... but looking up in the internetz, I've found that Qii is the standard.  My only doubt is since apparently LG came out with two versions, one that came with Qii standard and one that came with A4WP, is they anyway I can know from the physical connectors? Here's the backplate for my phone.

Also, a few forum say that some batteries may degrade quicker when using wireless charging because of the heat generated from the coil. From what I can gather, it was old Qii manufactureres (nokia and samsung IIRC ), would put the coil straight on top of the batteries, on current smartphones, the induction part is stuck on the cover and current transmitted direct to battery, thus delivering electric current normally, I fail to see how this would degrade the battery more than what normal charging would do?

I've googled the hell out of "wireless chargers" and everyone seems to have their own favorite brand, so I figured why not ask here and see what your experiencies have been, could you please recommend based "Qii brand Charger - phone used to charge".

I don't use wireless charging but I have read the same thing about the extra heat generated leading to battery degradation. Some say it's "omfg the worst thing ever" while some say the heat generated isn't sufficient to do any real damage. Chips inside the phone create plenty of heat so I don't see the big deal about it, frankly.

This video is good for some basics about wireless charging:

You might want to ask yourself whether or not wireless charging is even worth it. It's slow, so it might be good next to your bed at night or n a desk all day, but otherwise I'd just use a cable/dock.

Cool informative video!

Yeah like I said, I can understand how heat as an issue in first generation products, not so much now.

I have the LG G3 with the wireless charging dock and popped open the cover. It looks the same as yours with the four prong connectors and the phone itself has four points where it connects to (above the battery, opposite the SIM/SD card slot).

Did you get the official LG charger? Is there a difference between that and cable charging?

I pop my Nexus 5 onto a wireless charger every night. I bought this one a while back http://www.play.com/Mobiles/Mobile/4-/27300559/-/Product.html

Same question as above.

Yep official wireless LG charging dock (it came with the phone when I bought it).

It makes it easier to charge late at night when i'm tucked in bed and its dark.. Don't need to look for the charging cable and then fit it in the right way to start charging.

When charging a message pops up and says wireless charging on the screen when I put it in the dock and then the battery icon starts filling up and down, if I just use the cable it just has the battery icon filling up and then back down.

I'm not sure if it charges slower on wireless, it seems to be about the same time. But I don't really use the cable to charge the phone, wireless is easier.
