Creating a Hybrid CD in XP

Recommended Posts

How would I go about creating a Hybrid CD in Windows?

In preparation for the arrival of my powerbook this week I downloaded a few .dmg files that I would like to burn and have ready. Please advice. Thanks.

Hybrid CD - not sure I've heard of that one. Here's what I think you mean:

- Format the CD (CDFS will work on both PC & Mac).

- Burn the .dmg files to the CD.

- Put the CD into a PC or a Mac, and you'll be able to read from both systems.

If the dmg's that you are talking about are cd images, and you are wanting to write them to CD for use on the Mac, you can use Nero. Add a .iso extension to the end of the filename (to make it easier to find in Nero), open Nero, select File (for 5.5 or below), or Recorder (for 6.0 or above), select "burn image...". Select the file that you are wanting to burn, on the next dialog box, make sure to select HFS, not Mode 1, then burn it. One thing to keep in mind though is that this will ONLY work for dmg files that were made in "CD/DVD Master" mode. If they are compressed, this won't work, they will have to be burned on a Mac.

I didn't know that, because when I posted the reply all I could think of were the security update patches from Apple's update section (eg: SecurityUpd2003-12-05.dmg).

So .dmg is the same as .iso (dmg = mac, iso = windows).

Thanks for the info.

I wanted to just burn a cd full of .dmg files. is it possible or is my only option to burn each dmg as if it was an iso this taking up a whole cd per dmg..
