singularity87
I just got a Dell UltraSharp U2713HM which seems great in all but one serious respect. The colours are very warm by default. The only way I can really get rid of it to my subjective satisfaction is to use the Custom Color mode. I had a previous unit which was faulty and RMA'd as there was a mark inside the screen - the colour was much better though. I'm trying to decide if this is a fault or not or if it is, is it worth RMA'ing? I'm basically happy with the monitor but I might want to use it for photo editing in future in which case I don't want to find that I can't configure the colours correctly. I think the cause of the problem is poor colour calibration at the factory but I'm not certain. The pros of this monitor is that it doesn't have any nasty dead pixels or backlight bleed which a replacement might hence why I have doubts about returning it. Attached is a side-by-side of the image with the picture from the previous monitor:
blerk
Have you installed the colour profiles that dell provides? If not, I generally use the colour profiles that tftcentral provides as I generally like how they turn out. They also have a full how-to guide on how to use .icc profiles if you need it. singularity87
I've tried the Dell colour profiles and the ones from TFTcentral. The only thing that 'works' is manually setting the colours to a different mix of Red, Green and Blue under Custom Color (or adjusting the colours in the graphics card control panel). I think the monitor is just poorly calibrated rather than anything deeper but I'm not certain. It is fine for what I'm using it for now with these custom settings but if I want to use it for anything where colour accuracy is really important I'm concerned that will be a problem. blerk
The best way to make sure your monitor is displaying colours perfectly would be to invest in an external colorimeter. I can't think of any other way that will basically guarantee colour accuracy. Even if the monitor was factory calibrated, to get every last bit of performance, the best way would still be to calibrate it with something like a Spyder or Xrite. +Zlip792 MVC Posted November 6, 2014 MVC Share Posted November 6, 2014 From tftcentral review, I think this monitor does have poor calibration out of the box. Review: http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/dell_u2713h.htm Even Factory Calibration does not make much difference except made Color Temperature better, I'll recommend you to read Factory Calibration part of the review. Also try Calibrated setting though each panel has different stats and also ambient light usage but you can try settings from software calibration posted.
