zachman123
I know it sounds weird, but is there any way to get rid of a login password for a/all users? It's killing security I know, but it's just a family computer and we never used them on windows. thanx!

MrStaticVoid
You can setup GDM to start automatically execute at startup and that has the option to automatically log on a user.

zachman123
actually, I found it on google... It's just passwd -d username! Even in Xlogin, you don't get a password dialog. You can also do this for root (Not recommended tho!)
Ryan Hoffman
Couldn't you boot up in RunLevel 1?
markwolfe Veteran Posted December 15, 2003 Veteran Share Posted December 15, 2003 Run Linux with no security? Isn't that called Windows or Lindows? :shifty: On the serious side, though, are you sure you want auto-login and no passwords? If so, please don't give any of these accounts root-level access (and leave the PW on root!). I think for a Windows-centric user, having the login screen come up, but no PW should be OK. Leave root login with a password. Just my 2 cents. :)
zachman123
Yea, that's what I've already done, it's because my family is too used to the xp welcome login :(... Next I have to make a GDM theme that looks like XP to make them happy, keep getting xml errors tho, is there a way to test a login theme w/o logging out, and then having to startx again? (probably some program) anyways, thanx to all who helped
