HP All-In-One MS225 won't turn on...what most likely be wrong?

Recommended Posts

I working on an HP All-In-One MS255 which doesn't turn on. I have tried a laptop AC adapter with 19V / 3.42 A...and I realize it's not the exact specification on the unit of either 18.5v / 6.5a or 19v / 4.74a...but until I got the right adapter shipped in I wanted to see if I could hear anything or see at least a power light come on when I pressed the power button...but nothing happens. If the MB was good wouldn't I at least hear or see something happen even with an adapter with a difference of -1.32A?? I'm eager to get this working and thank in advanced any one with a helpful answer or response.

Doesnt matter if the motherboard is good or not -- you wont get that far with a power problem.

It wont turn on - no signs of life ?  its a power issue.

Start looking @ the power supply

You probably wont be able to play with it until the part comes in... if that's the part you ordered...

And please, don't use another power adapter  just because you're bored. Even if the specs do match.

(when I say "power supply" - I am referring to the power board inside the all-in-1, not the AC adaptor.

This is assuming it is not the AC adaptor (you will need an exact replacement)

I know HP adapters have a third analog pin that identifies the adapter as an HP one(third party that support hp work too because they clone the id). So unless its one of those adapters you are testing, it wont work regardless if it fits the voltage and current spec.
