Anyone remember the game Stonekeep?

It's like one of the very first PC games I ever played, next to DOOM. That was years ago, however, I was able to find the game again and I want to play it but I just can't get it to run. I contacted Interplay and this is all they told me for install instructions:

I only have 98 on my other comp which is much older (built in 99 I believe), which is the one I tried to install it on, but it doesn't play. As it loads into the screen I get a black screen that says something like "CONFIG.EXE currupt or missing" - something like that. It won't let me install it under MS-DOS, either. But I remember playing the game years ago on 98 before, so I don't know what to do. Desperate need of help!

Oooh I remember that game :) Have you tried using the compatibility mode yet in xp? If that doesn't work, then I think you'll need to find a computer running a FAT16/32 file system.

BTW also check out this link.

And are you running the pif or the executable file? The pif was designed for 95, while the executable was designed for dos.

Yes I've tried using compadibility mode under XP but it doesn't work, and Interplay told me it wouldn't either. They said, however, it should work fine under 98 as long as I had all my DOS drivers installed (cd-rom, mouse, keyboard, ect.) Well, I'm not sure if I do and I don't know where to get them if that's the case. So the game I tried to install on my other machine that has 98 on it, but as I said, it won't run. I pop the game in, hit install and go through the steps from there. When the SETUP program pops up to have me chose my sound card and video settings, ect, for the game, it freezes everytime I select something and closes out. But the game won't run at all, when you click on SK to start the game, the screen goes black and an error similair to "CONFIG.EXE missing or currupt." So I figured it needs to be install under MS-DOS (Restart > Ms-dos) and I've tried that, but it won't allow me to install it under DOS either. Everytime I switch over to D:\ it gives me this 'device not ready' crap.

So I'm not sure if my drivers (sound, video, cd rom, ect) are DOS compadable seeing as the MB is some all on-board off-brand SiS VIA crap that was built in 99, I believe. But I remember playin this game on 95/98 when I was still a kid years ago with no problem....so maybe it's just the computer? I'm entirely desperate to get this issue fixed so I can play this game  It's pathetic, I know.

And I checked out the website, no help really. What's the PIF and Executable? Thanks though.
