Sony To Begin Selling PlayStation 4 And PS Vita In China

Recommended Posts

Following Microsoft's lead, Sony will be selling its PlayStation 4 and Vita systems in the world's most populous country.

The reports that indicated Sony was going to begin selling PlayStation products in China are true. The systems will go on sale in China, which has only recently lifted its ban on foreign game consoles, on January 11. Sony is also working with a number of Chinese developers to create games specifically for that market. It's also signed on a number of Asian and western developers to create PlayStation content for China, including Bandai Namco, Sega, Konami, Square Enix, EA, Take-Two Interactive, and Bethesda Softworks ? a total of 70 in all.

The PlayStation 4 will sell for 2,899 Chinese Yuan ($468) and the Vita will sell for 1,299 Chinese Yuan ($210)

The PS4 will sell for 2,899 RMB ($468), while the PS Vita will go for 1,299 RMB ($210).

Our Take
Microsoft recently had a strong launch in China, selling over 100,000 units. I'm sure this deal has been in the works for some time. With the traditional Japanese, European, and U.S. markets so mature, China has by far the most potential for growth in the console business. It will be interesting to see how Sony and Microsoft deal with the market ? and especially the Chinese government, which has strict censorship laws.

This is a huge deal indeed. It will be interesting to see how much trouble Sony has getting content approved there, but it could be a big launch.

China seems to be the big target of potential for most markets now: Consoles, smartphones, etc

MS and Sony could both do very well there. I know both brands are popular.
