Capt_Boo
Ok I've been thinking.... If the XBOX is essential a computer similiar to my Desktop, then isn't theorically possible to run XBOX games on my PC? I mean XBOX has basically the same components as my computer so I don't see any problems. The XBOX might have some kind of security protection but I would imagine that someone in the world has gotten past that by now. :-) All I can see that I would need to make this work is some kind of XBOX emulator for the PC. Anyone know more on this topic? Thanks

Ruciz
yes, it is possible. nothing is impossible.. problem occurs when making a latency-free PC though that would be able to run a skimmed down version of windows 2000 and bypass all MS's signatures, and push the game through a keyboard and mouse or remap the controller. The Xbox is all component signed, so they all work, otherwise Xbox wouldn't even turn on. BTW, xbox has its own file format (FATX) for everything, so you would need heavy modification making a DVD player even to read the game titles, if so then you would need even more tweaking so they wouldn't spontaniously lock up like the xbox does every now and then. For $200 you could sell your desktop PC, and buy an Xbox, wire up 2 USB ports, get a converter to wire it to your monitor and install linux.. then you have a computer and a game console all in one
BroChaos Veteran Posted December 17, 2003 Veteran Share Posted December 17, 2003 i believe dazzla figured out how to do it in one of the longhorn betas ;)
kingbob
N.O You are sorely mistaken then, because it is possible. Like Ruciz said, anything is possible. That said, there is a working non-hoax Xbox emulator for the PC called Xeon, that actaully runs Halo in it's current iteration...just with graphical and sound errors, but it is playable and thats what counts. You can check it out in the NGEmu forums. The site is down right now I believe. Another Xbox emulator that is more promising is CXBX by Caustik. It doesn't play any commericial games yet, but it's been updated more than Xeon and has greater support from the Xbox scene.
kingbob
When I said Xeon plays Halo, you have to have the files from the Halo disc. If you have some sources I'm sure you know where you would obtain it. Either that or if you have a modded Xbox, you would just copy them over from the Xbox. Qumahlin
xbox has its own file format (FATX) for everything, so you would need heavy modification making a DVD player even to read the game titles Um not sure if your aware, but the the Xbox uses a plain jane DVD drive. you can take apart your xbox and replace the DVD player if you'd like
Dazzla Veteran Posted December 23, 2003 Veteran Share Posted December 23, 2003 i believe dazzla figured out how to do it in one of the longhorn betas ;) Yeah! When you insert a Xbox game, Longhorn recognises it, surely it's preliminary stages for XBox games on Longhorn:
forster
Dismantle the Xbox, stick it in an ATX case, there you go, Xbox games on a PC. Apart from that, you CANNOT do it at this point in time. If you could, it would have been done, the Xbox is getting on in years and has had every bit of it hacked and replaced. If it could have been done it would have been. YaZoR
Um not sure if your aware, but the the Xbox uses a plain jane DVD drive. you can take apart your xbox and replace the DVD player if you'd like but it uses a different power connector, so its not straight forward
+Dick Montage Subscriber² Posted December 23, 2003 Subscriber² Share Posted December 23, 2003 Jeez this pops up so frequently. A PC CAN emulate some of the XBOX functions. But it is slow, unreliable and under development. It is certainly not usable. And the XBOX being essentially a PC... It shares a number hardware and software traits (the 2000 kernel) but it is HEAVILY modified. And the XBOX drive is not a stock PC drive, it is once again, heavily modified. +Dick Montage Subscriber² Posted December 23, 2003 Subscriber² Share Posted December 23, 2003 It's more than the power connector. The firmware is revised, the drive reads outside-in and a number of other minor differences that add up to it not being a stock drive!
+John Teacake MVC Posted December 23, 2003 MVC Share Posted December 23, 2003 That was my post back a while ago . . . we found it was fake. Longhorn could also run Super NES game as well . It was one of my mates heard some lads talking about how they had it could be done and how they could do it. I think they were bull ****ting . . . none the less there will be some way of doing it, what about when they develop it they must develop it on some kind of PC. so anyway one day it will be done . . . wait and see. Also if they did manage to do it you can buy some kind of adapter to make the XBOX controler work on the PC.
+Dick Montage Subscriber² Posted December 23, 2003 Subscriber² Share Posted December 23, 2003 The XBOX cable is USB with a different connector. Slice n dice dude, slice n dice! On and running SNES games is easy, that system is well emulated!

+Dick Montage Subscriber² Posted December 23, 2003 Subscriber² Share Posted December 23, 2003 The HD is apparently "locked", which I know very little about. But yeah, it's a PC drive that has been modified (via software). Apparently Maxtors work well - I am upgrading mine to 120gb. When you took your lid off, is it easy? I only wanna peek! +John Teacake MVC Posted December 23, 2003 MVC Share Posted December 23, 2003 i thought it might be as simple as something as creating a ghost image of the x box hard drive and use that in a pc to run the games off.
