im not sure if this has already been said, but the xbox does not use a plain jane dvd drive. thier drives read from the outside in

It's the gamecube that do that. xBox simply use DVD+R.

you sir are a moron! :p

the xbox uses a standard samsung/thompson DVD drive, nothing special. On the other hand the Xbox game discs use XDFS instead of standard UDF.

For the moderator who replied that the system was only meant for one task, you my friend are quite wrong.

I understand you were trying to go with a simple answers, but you have to remember the games can have more than one thread. Some effects, or physics could be probably run under a different THREAD. This is the whole essence of multi-tasking; having multiple threads.

the developers might have a special developer version

they write the code on a pc and prolly use serial connection to send the game to the xbox in realtime or some fashion.

this is how alot of game makers work

Taking this a little bit more off-topic, but if you (somehow) managed to flash the BIOS of an XBOX, would it be possible t install windows on it ? (assuming that you would have to format the HDD etc..)

Why bother? If you get a modchip you might as well as install linux and ou will have a fully working system. Except for the video drivers, which you will have to use vesa for :/

,Dec 24 2003, 07:59] the difference is that the pc is a multitasking machine, x-box in the other hand is an optimized machine for just one task, run the game

And yet, you can run the same software on an xbox as you can on a PC (i.e. linux)

I said WINDOWS because I meant WINDOWS if I had meant linux, I would have said it.

like i said, WHY BOTHER. Your gonna have a REAL hard time looking for resources on how to do it, on the OTHER HAND, there are linux install manuals everywhere

OH BTW

in linux why dont you jiust install VirtualPC

and THEN INSTALL WINDOWS

Great idea!? >:o

I thought that they had the pc there, then an Xbox plugged into the pc, and they coded something, then sent that part of the game to the xbox to see if it would work. I saw them do that for the PS2 and I was thinking that maybe they do that with the Xbox. Don't ask me to find where I got that, as it was like a year ago I saw that.
