ultimate99
I'm actually needing it now because I'm starting school again soon. I'm into productivity more than just gaming, and I want to future-proof myself, therefore an i5 is the best way to go. I can upgrade ram, ssd, hdd, and gfx later, no problem. Therefore, here's a build that is really close to what I need: PCPartPicker part list: http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/p6qVZL Price breakdown by merchant: http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/p6qVZL/by_merchant/ CPU: Intel Core i5-4440 3.1GHz Quad-Core Processor ($189.99 @ NCIX) Motherboard: MSI H81I Mini ITX LGA1150 Motherboard ($71.40 @ DirectCanada) Memory: Kingston 8GB (1 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($69.81 @ DirectCanada) Storage: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($49.99 @ Canada Computers) Case: Antec ISK600 Mini ITX Tower Case ($39.99 @ NCIX) Power Supply: Corsair CX 600W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply ($49.99 @ Memory Express) Total: $471.17 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2014-12-27 13:58 EST-0500 I'm not sure the difference between H81 and B85 chipsets in real life, but I went with the cheaper, but relatively reliable mobo. I might be able to get a used XFX 7950 for only $100, which is cool, won't go beyond budget too much after tax.
Luc2k
so the 750 Ti is not a dGPU enought? lol Obviously, I was talking about staying within the budget of 500$ which wouldn't cover both the i5 and the 750 Ti. Your last config is very close to what I was suggesting after you confirmed Intel only. I'm not sure the difference between H81 and B85 chipsets in real life, but I went with the cheaper, but relatively reliable mobo. Wiki: +2 USB3 and +2 SATA3 slots basically. I'd go with B85 personally and don't be afraid of ASRock boards as they've gotten a pretty good reputation these past couple of years. Regardless of manufacturer, do read individual board reviews in case there's a dud.
