On a serious note, the rx-8 is under powered only 150lb torque, you should consider the evo VIII or the WRX. Both these cars are perfectr as everyday drives and for the drag strip.

If you are going to invest money into a car shouldn't you read up on the specs of the cars and stuff before you buy them? Thats what I would do before coming and asking peoples opinions...

I'm not sure how good it is in practice but the rotary engine is supposed to be very efficient. But if all you want to do with the car is race it and waste our valuable resources then you probably don't care about that.

the only thing stopping me from looking at the skyline is the design, and i think they are illigal here in California...if any one has a supra dat they wanna get rid off let me know..um... as for saburu i'm not much of a fan

They're not illegal if you get them imported from one of the few business that do. They will make sure it meets emissions and smog, usually the retail for the lowest Skyline from Japan is 70K, and I think there was one that came out in the US this year. And good luck on finding a Supra, they're hard to come by. I would recommend the RX-8, but you should really do the research yourself and test drive the vehicles you're considering. Don't solely base your decision from a discussion on the internet, otherwise you might make the wrong decission and end up getting mad at the people who told you to when it is your responsibility.

The Mazda RX8 is a powered by a 228bhp 1.3 litre engine. A 1.3 litre engine producing 228bhp !!! It has a wankel rotary engine. Rotary engines are supposedly more reliable than traditional engines because they contain fewer moving parts. Also it supposed to be one of the easiest cars to drive fast. You can do crazy donuts in it.

Just watched Top Gear show about it - drooling now, its awesome. I want one too.

check your pm - see the review before you decide

Well one of my best friends has a RX8 and i ride in it frequently, its small, yet comftorble, its fast, and very trendy and futuristic looking, the fabric you can get is a wierd feeling fabric but it looks cool, and if you get a delux one you can get matching entiorer, also a lcd that can pop out of the screen, the cd player is nice, even though not the best, i dont think you can install a customizable deck either seeing the way the dash is set up(no space for me) there are plunty of lil compartments in it, and cool hidden ones 2, the only problem iv seen with this car is yes it will scratch seein its very low, and sometimes if a tall person is in the front, or mid sized, sometimes it is hard to get in the back...very smooth ride...i reccomend it if u have the cash

Don't waste your money importing a Skyline to the US. In the US, you get more bang for your buck if you go for non grey imports (i.e your RX-8's and 350Z's, etc).

I would get RX8. Though the car is underpowered but driving it should be fun. I have test drove the RX8...well I know the car was lacking torque at lower rpm range, but starting from like 3500 rpm upwards you feel quite a push. At high rpm you really feel the engine really sing and feel the excitement from the rotary engine.

Compared to 350Z which is just another beautiful looking coupe, but RX8 is different. RX8 is actually a 4 door coupe, and what interest me is the suicide doors.

Man I really feel wanted to test drive RX8 again. If I have money I would buy RX8 for sure :)

if u like supras get a lexus IS300 its has the same motor as a N/A suprea and the g35(infinity) is called the skyline in japan. Who ever called teh RX-8 fast needes to actually know what fast is, they average 14.8 at the tracks, my car gets a 15.4 and its an escort, they are NOT fast, just quick, and i hear the new rotary has the same problem of blowing gaskets the rx-7 had. Personally i'd get a RX-7 TT.

and for a motor that will tkae a lot of HP? the Neon SRT-4's bottom end will hold a bit under 600HP, and stock gets 230hp to the wheels and can run a 13.8 w/ a good driver.

so is a supra, that doesnt mean a IS300 it'll take 1000hp also. pluse after 3 mods u need to replace the pcm on te rx-7 the 8 might be the same

the evo is a better handling car but the sti was faster in the 1/4, i saw some reviews on tv for them

350Z actually got better reviews than the RX-8. If you don't mind frequent gear shifting then RX-8 isn't a problem to you, by that I mean, if you compare the RX-8 to the 350Z, you gotta gear shift quickly for the first few gears, the times are a lot shorter compared to the 350Z.

Another thing about the RX-8, many of you are talking about it being powerful and capable of such and such hp, but according to Mazda, the reason why they didn't release a RX-8 turbo was that they wanted to keep it as a pure rotary engine. It is possible to tune the engine to it's limits running as NA, but also many have questioned if it was possible to throw in a turbo, the answer is yes, but it's not recommended by Mazda and also the engine wasn't really made for turbos.

I agree with altecxp in some cases. RX-7TT is actually a hell of a lot better than the RX-8. But if what altecxp said is true about the 1/4 mile time for the RX-8, then I would say it is sort of fast, for a 1.3 litre NA to run 1/4 mile in 14 secs is a fair effort, but it really depends on the driver. Also, there is quite a big difference between the Supra RZ (TT) and the SZ (NA) also the Skyline GT (NA). The SZ and GT might have lots of power in the engine for a NA car, like let's say 160-180kw, then you bring along a Integra VTi-R (or Type-R) or a Prelude VTi-R and drag the SZ and the GT, the SZ and GT will actually lose to the 4 cylinder FWD cars (the Integra and the Prelude). I know this for a fact because I've read it in magazines and I goto drags as well.

Saiya: This is just my personal opinion - get the 350Z. Both cars have very sleek and sporty looks, but if you want a little more in the interior get the RX-8, if you want an engine that isn't as restricted - get the 350Z.

you look to be in the same position that i was

i posted on neowin a few weeks ago ...i was going to choose between the sti, evo viii, rx-8 , 350z , etc

i test drove all of those cars and the one that blasted me away was the evo, which is the car i eventually bought and the car i drive everyday now :)

i would honestly say your best bet would be the evo, of course its all dependent on what you want of course
