ViperSnake
I have a high speed connection using a cable modem and my ethernet adapter but I don't know how to get it to work under Red Hat 9.0 . Could someone please help me?
kjordan2001
Has your network card already been detected? Is it set up using DHCP (if you use this) or static IP (if you use this)?
NeoMayhem
Does it just use DHCP? You can easily set that up in Linux, just open the network config window in red hat and you can do it ;)
ViperSnake
Well strangly during the install it did not prompt for network info because I keep my modem off while not using the web. Also I've been skipping over Kudsu dyring the boot.
markwolfe Veteran Posted December 17, 2003 Veteran Share Posted December 17, 2003 With the modem off (assuming you connect directly from modem to PC eth0, and no router in-between), you shoudl still have a working eth0 device. However, the modem supplies your IP to the PC, so RH will not be able to detect what kind of connectino you have (static IP, or DHCP). I think that if the modem were on, (even if you removed the Cable Co. BNC connector from the back) your install would have recognized the connection type. It just can't detect what can't be seen. :) Of course, this assumes that your eth0 card is recognized and set up properly by RH. ;)
