Sony announces the Xperia Pro smartphone with a dedicated HDMI input for $2,499.99
by Jay Bonggolto
Sony announced today its newest 5G smartphone with an HDMI input, the first of its kind to include that feature. The Xperia Pro is targeted at professional content creators, enabling them to turn the handset into an external monitor and broadcast a live stream video through its 5G connectivity.
The device is capable of recording a 4K HDR video at up to 60fps and compatible with any camera equipped with an HDMI input, including Sony's Alpha lineup. It can also take slow-motion videos at 120fps. For creators, the Xperia Pro can be connected to the HDMI output of a camera and used as a secondary screen where they can view the video more clearly. They can also adjust the screen brightness, pinch to zoom in or out, and adjust the framing using the grid lines.
Connectivity-wise, the device supports both Sub-6GHz and 5G mmWave. It also features a 360-degree antenna design that Sony says covers all four sides of the phone for better reception. Users can also assign a network visualizer feature to its side-mounted shortcut button in order to look for the best spot to get a signal.
The Xperia Pro comes with a set of hardware specs similar to last year's Xperia 1 II. For example, it is powered by a Snapdragon 865 SoC and it has a 4,000mAh battery with fast charging support. On its back, there's a triple camera setup comprising a 16mm ultra wide-angle lens, 24mm wide-angle lens, and 70mm telephoto lens, all with 12MP sensors. For selfies, it has an 8MP camera on the front.
The device sports a 6.5-inch 4K HDR OLED display with a 21:9 "CinemaWide" aspect ratio and a resolution of 3840 x 1644. Its screen is protected by Corning's Gorilla Glass 6 and the phone has an IP65/68 rating for water resistance.
Sony is rolling out the Xperia Pro initially in North America starting today for $2,499.99. For that price, you get 12GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage that's expandable up to 1TB with a microSD card.

Sony announces its new Airpeak drone at CES 2021
by Jay Bonggolto
Sony announced today its new drone that it says is built specifically for professional photography and video creation. The Airpeak was unveiled at Sony's CES 2021 presentation.
While this is the first time that the company is showing off its new drone, Airpeak was originally mentioned in a press release from Sony back in November of last year, with a vague description stating it was meant to "support the creativity of video creators". Back then, it was introduced as a drone project in the field of artificial intelligence robotics, with no actual image of what it looked like.
Today, Sony released a video demonstrating the drone in action. Airpeak was used to shoot the road test of Sony's Vision-S all-electric concept sedan in Austria. An α7S III full-frame mirrorless camera was mounted on the drone to capture the vehicle while running.
The Japanese company claims Airpeak is "the industry's smallest class of drone that can be equipped with the Alpha system". It has four rotors and two landing arms that lift when the drone takes off.
Airpeak can perform dynamic filming and stable flight to empower video creators in the field of entertainment with "new possibilities for creative expression". Sony is planning to introduce a new business aimed at photography and video production professionals in the spring as part of the first phase of its drone project.

DLNA browsing
When browsing a TV show in the Media Library, all videos across all seasons are visible. There are two new folders within the Movies and TV Shows folders - Filter by Progress and Filter by Information. Filter by Progress contains the Watched and Unwatched folders which used to sit within the Videos folder in the Media Library Filter by Information lets you filter the videos by a new rich metadata set (actors, genres, country, director, genre, IMDb rating, release date). Alongside that is a similar folder Filter by Information which lets you filter the videos by API metadata (actors, genres, etc.) New folders Recently Added, Recently Played, In Progress and Most Played are in the Media Library Web interface
Added breadcrumbs at the top of each page When in the TV Shows area of the Media Library, the TV shows themselves are shown as thumbnails, with covers from the API When browsing a TV show, a movie, or a TV episode, any API metadata is displayed along with a large cover image, including actors, awards, classification, country, directors, genres, plot, ratings, year, and total seasons. On those pages above, the colors on the pages are based on the cover image Clicking on an individual actor, country, director, genre, or start year, takes you to a list of other media that matches that metadata The last few items in the Recently Added, Recently Played, In Progress and Most Played folders are displayed on the front page Each TV show and movie has an IMDb icon and direct link if one is found Folder and media covers are shown Fixed bugs with the Back button Version has moved to the settings menu Minor design updates General
