Kasandoro
Hey all! I currently have Smoothwall 2.0 set up on a Pentium-166 with 64MB RAM, and it's working great. However, I'd like to know if there's a better distribution that will do what I need. I have 6 computers that all need internet access, and will need their IP addresses assigned via DHCP (DHCP server is a must). I *really* love the traffic graphs and IP blocking available in Smoothwall, but could live without it. --Kas

markwolfe Veteran Posted December 17, 2003 Veteran Share Posted December 17, 2003 It depends on what you mean by "better". It means different things to different people.. :D However, from your post, I will assume that you mean "efficient, basic, and secure". In that case, I think that OpenBSD (or possibly other *BSD variant) will be best - from what I have heard. I have no personal experience with BSD, but if you look here Netcraft.com, you will see that it appears to be a VERY reliable OS to use on the web! neowin_hipster
It's wednesday again. Can you tell? Here's a hint, monday is " what's the best distro" tuesday is "i'm a linux n00b and i can't use a search function" wednestay is " what's best firewall/router distro" thursday is "i wanna do xyz, replies: use gentoo, suse, my distro of choice" frirday is "how do i partition" the weekend shares something like "how do i install xyz" Why can't people ever do a search for old topics or read docs or faqs before asking.
