Luke88
Hello, This may be a dumb question, but does anyone know if the use of a virtual machine on an SSD drive is advised? As the VM hard drive is a file on the drive, would this file cause heavy writing to a certain part of the SSD drive? The VM wouldn't be used day to day, just to test an OS. Haggis Veteran Posted January 24, 2015 Veteran Share Posted January 24, 2015 will work the same as any os but yeah having it on an ssd you would get the same speed enhancement as you would your normal non vm os
AndyMutz
yes, it is advised to use a SSD for VMs as the speed gain is really huge compared to a standard HDD. and it doesn't matter of how many files the VM consists, or how big the files are.. SSDs have an internal function called "wear leveling", which prevents the overuse of the same memory cells on the SSD. -andy- Aergan 1 Share
Depicus
I use VM's on my SSD all the time and this laptop is 4 years old now and never had an issue. Lots of cloud providers are moving to SSD as well so if the big boys can am sure you will be ok. Aergan 1 Share
