Jason the Eighty Eighth
well, good news and some bad news. good - i found the problem of the blue screens and i'm going to buy a new HSF for my video card this weekend. bad - my Windows 2000 takes atleast 5 reboots just to run the game. normally, when i start game, i would obviously navigate to "Play xxxx" through the start menu. and this time it's no exception. but when i run it, the screen goes black, and it returns to the desktop, and the game is still running on the background (however, there is no customised icon next to the name, just the default 2000 icon for any application). if i try clicking on the game in the taskbar, it goes black, and returns back to the desktop. i've read on the Powercolor support site that you should increase your AGP Aperture size to 64/128Mb. i've done this, and still, it is no luck. it's all random, on a good occasion, i can start the game easily, but on a bad occasion, just a few minutes ago, i had to restart 4 - 5 times. can you suggest some reasons why? i've reinstalled the game. Gambit MEM
Does the CD need to be in the CD/DVD drive in order to launch the game? Not sure if this will help but I have had similar problems on several games where I try to start it and it drops me back to the desktop. It had to do with my DVD drive being an overly "accurate" reader and the protection on the CD (not a copy but an original). It takes several tries sometimes to launch certain games. Malechai Veteran Posted December 18, 2003 Veteran Share Posted December 18, 2003 update to the latest directx. if you already have it, reinstall it by installing latest again. i had this problem quite a bit a while back. anything that wanted to switch the refresh rate or resolution would make the monitor blank, then go back to the desktop. the application would just bit sitting in the taskbar. clicking it would make the screen black, then go back to the desktop. sometimes 1 reboot would fix it, sometimes more. reinstalling directx fixed this for me. BroChaos Veteran Posted December 18, 2003 Veteran Share Posted December 18, 2003 i had/have this problem too. my desktop on my pc is 1024x768, and any games that i try to run any larger than that do exactly what you say. so i just play games at 1024x768. i thought it was the monitor just sucking...(it's my gf's 17", my 19" is back home)
