How much to sell an AMD Radeon HD 7870 XT for?

Recommended Posts

I have two of these cards.

One is 1 year old.

One is 2 years old.

How much do you think I should sell them for?

The PC has always been in a smoke-free, pet-free environment.

I was thinking around

That's a link to the 7870, not the 7870 XT.

There are no results on eBay UK for the 7870 XT (used) in the UK at the moment.

i would wait for new amd offerings before i would buy 970

Such an excellent value GPU only come around every few years.

The refresh next year most likely not be as good value for money.

Maybe not but it will bring the price of the 970 down.

I've fed up of seeing NVIDIA GameWorks features in games and not being able to use them.

I went from a 5850 to a 670 and now a 970 and so far i've not been impressed with nVidia propretary techs. The cards are good but turning PhysX and such off in games doesn't change much to be honest. It's like TressFX in Tomb Raider.

Depend on your cpu. With an old cpu like mine (core i5 750) the asnwer is no.

But like i said you might be disappointed. When i got my 670 i was excited to finally see what PhysX was all about. I've been satisfied with my 670 and 970. Both very good cards. Awesome arch with low temp and power consumption. But i've not been impressed by PhysX and other proprietary techs so far. When i'll build my new PC (probably next fall) it will not be part of the decision when i'll choose the gpu.

Between the 970 and the 290x i would choose the 970. There's good 290x with custom cooler out there but at lower res (1080p and under) the 970 is the winner. But if you can wait some months i would personally wait. The new AMD cards will probably push the price of the 970 down. You could very well to be able to buy a 970 equiv for around 200-250$ at the end of next summer.

Also don't get me wrong you do what you want with your money but why are you investing so much money to play at 1680x1050? I bought a 1080p LED IPS monitor some time ago for 180$ and it's day and night between it and the crap 1680x1050 TN panel i had before.

Waiting this summer for the 970 price to go down and using the money saved to help buying a 1080p IPS monitor under 200$ might be a good idea. With a 1680x1050 cheap TN panel i'm affraid you wont experience all the glory of your games no matter what card you might buy. The difference between my LG IPS LED 1080p panel and my old Samsung 1680x1050 TN CCFL panel is really really big.

Many games have poor CrossFireX support, or in many cases (e.g. Far Cry 4, Grand Theft Auto IV), no support at all; so having 2x 7870 XT is useless a lot of the time.

Far Cry 4 doesn't run too well on one 7870 XT in anything above High at 1680x1050, so I certainly don't want to increase the resolution of the output to 1920x1080 and give myself even lower framerates for the next 6-9 months whilst I wait for a different card to the 970.
