soniqstylz
Okay, need a little help here. Hopefully I've done most everything right so far. I built this PC basically to rip and store all my vinyl (and it's a lot). AMD A8-5600K 3.6Ghz APU MSI A78M-E35 Micro Mobo Corsair 8GB (2x4GB) 1600 DDR3 Corsair Builder 430W PSU Creative ZXR 24-bit Soundcard NZXT Phantom 410 case Samsung optical drive ASUS 24" Monitor After realizing I had a couple plugs in backwards (and that the PSU 8-prong power plug splits to fit the mobo 4-prong plug), I finally got it to boot up. Sort of. The monitor shows "CPU or Memory has changed. Please enter Setup to configure your system" Of course I don't have a plug-in keyboard at the moment, but I can get one. Any ideas what the problem might be before I delve much deeper?
+Cryton Subscriber² Posted February 2, 2015 Subscriber² Share Posted February 2, 2015 Sounds like the BIOS is remembering how much memory you had in the machine when you first powered it up, and now things you have a different amount of memory in there so is telling you that. No big deal to troubleshoot, plug a KB in and hit a key. The Evil Overlord and soniqstylz 2 Share
soniqstylz
Also for some reason I can't get the fan molex to plug into the PSU. Maybe I just need more force, but I'm paranoid I'll break it.
+Cryton Subscriber² Posted February 2, 2015 Subscriber² Share Posted February 2, 2015 Got any photos of what you're trying to do. The fan's molux connector shouldn't go straight into the PSU box, but into one of the PSU's cables. They are square at the bottom corners and have an angle at the other two corners so you can't get them in the wrong way round. We're talking about one of these right? http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/3/31/Molex_female_connector.jpg
Aergan
Enter BIOS/UEFI firmware, reset to defaults, save & exit.
soniqstylz
Well, I was plugging it into the cable from the PSU. Fixed that part. Now I get no power whatsoever. I don't know how you people do this. I'm so not mechanically inclined lol.
+Cryton Subscriber² Posted February 2, 2015 Subscriber² Share Posted February 2, 2015 So I guess that before, you could get power to your motherboard because you saw stuff on your monitor. And now you've plugged the molex fan in and you no longer get power? I would unplug the fan quick sharp. When you "get no power whatsoever" I guess that means there are no LEDs on the motherboard that are lit?

But yeah, nothing on the screen, either. My first inkling that there was ever power was that the CPU fan started to spin a little bit. Now I'm not getting that. The Evil Overlord
To add to Xeno's post.... Or your location, If I'm nearby (unlikely) I could come to you and have a look. But maybe there IS a member nearby that could do that, Try unplugging thr fan that is stopping the power feed, and get to your bios settings, I had a few problems when I built my hex core rig, once I figured out the ram freq and power requirements, I ran into a 'refused to boot' issue, in the end I had to get my old machine, reformat the sd drive, re fit it to the new rig, and install windows, it's probably something so simple it got overlooked

This will NOT reset until you unplug the mains for 10 to 30 seconds.
soniqstylz
I unplugged the molex. and immediately the CPU and PSU fans started to spin intermittently. Runs just in short bursts for about 5 seconds, then stops. Both at the same time. I can't get to a plugged in keyboard until tomorrow tho. (edit) I didn't unplug the molex itself, I unplugged the cable that ran from the PSU to the molex to the mobo, from the mobo. And I live in Ohio. The Evil Overlord
Sounds like you may have to unhook all the power lines in the rig and reconnect from the psu, but before you this, try unplugging from the mains, (then try and turn of the computer to remove the residual charge <optional>) Tidosho, I agree with you, but I have accidentally plugged a molex up the wrong way (once, but at that time, I knew nothing about computers, hell I once thought it'll be ok if I ran an old athlon cpu without the heatsink and fan attatched, it burned up as soon as I pressed the power button, and I learned not to do that too) The molex issue wasn't disasterous, and eventually asked someone who knew more than me about computers to have a look at the rig, it took him a couple of days also, he figured it out when he decided to rewire the psu molex connectors. This was back in 2000 ish

soniqstylz
Ok, so I pulled everything out of the case in an attempt to start from the basics. Mounted the motherboard on a cardboard box and only plugged in the necessities (RAM, left the CPU as-is, PSU, monitor via VGA, and a 128GB SSD that I'll use for the OS once I can boot everything up). Here are pictures in case anyone has any ideas of what might be wrong to begin with. Now, here comes what might be the stupid question -- how the hell do I power the mobo on outside of the case? Nevermind figured that part out. Here goes.
Baz_
Your Multi Plug aint in properly, Also As far as i remember your Mother board needs an earth, hence you have gold motherboard mounts to your Case chassis
soniqstylz
Okay got it to power up and into the BIOS. Fingers crossed it works when I work everything into the case. soniqstylz
Okay, so I got everything back in the case, rewired the whole thing, and again it won't fire up with the molex fan cord from the PSU plugged into "sysfan" on the motherboard. Outside of that, I think everything works
soniqstylz
Oh holy ###### I'm dumb. So I didn't need to plug the PSU fan cord into the mobo since the case already has a fan controller. Just needed to plug it into the molex and I'm good. Installing Windows now. Thanks for your help everyone!
