Best GPU settings to run modern games

Recommended Posts

With my current GPU whenever I try running 2560x1440 in the settings for Dying Light its start lagging really bad.  I tried this with DeadSpace 3 and it works fine but you can easily notice frames being skipped. I am very new to gaming on the pc. What are the best settings to play games in? It looks like im going to need a new gpu to work games at Max- Can someone recommend a good gpu for gaming? I'm aim for a black and white one to match my theme 10422496_1054328144593189_50706979638572

before i look it up.. please dont tell me thats gona cost me 500 - 1000$ lol

if you are lucky you maybe can get the cheapest one for $500  :p

if you want to spend less, then you have to get GeForce GTX 970 :)  EVGA cards look nice. $339 at newegg

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814487070&cm_re=GeForce_GTX_970-_-14-487-070-_-Product

14-487-070-TS?$S300$

that's what i would get, at it seem more reasonable price and still good to run at highest res.   though obviously not as great as 980.

MSI GTX 970 GAMING 4G http://www.msi.com/product/vga/GTX-970-GAMING-4G.html#hero-overview

Really fantastic card. Running 2 in SLI at the moment and damn, it's fantastic. Quiet, low heat but high performance. Buttery smooth frame rates. Recommend it over anything AMD have out. Always found AMD cards give a not so much butter smooth output yet report high frame rates.

well 1st off Dying Light is a very bad console port on the PC at this point. the FOV slider is connected to the FPS instability on the pc, its been discussed a few times, esp on TotalBiscuit who runs 2 Titans and even plain showed it off on video how unstable draw distance and FOV impacts FPS. Your rig is pretty good for 2015, so you really should not spend more money

Im not into the newer ones but my 7950 runs everything I try on it :)

That will struggle in newer games at anything above medium detail at 1920x1080.

for 2560x1440 it's a non issue.   970 manages just fine.   issues happen when you push the memory to over 3.5 GB,  which is highly unlikely to happen on 2560x1440.  you really need to be running at even higher res.

Even over 3.5GB, all the tech reviewers who tried identifying performance issues couldn't find anything worth worrying about. At that point you're in low-framerate territory anyway so perhaps a little more stutter is hardly an issue.

That said, at 300$ the R290X is a great deal currently, and depending on which games you want to play, might be a better choice than the GTX 970. Just read a lot of benchmarks.

Like what? Just to know :)

I am running at 2500x1080 pretty much anything from DayLight to ESO and BF4, etc.. No downsides so far at high/ultra. Dont know about 1440p, ofc :) its a good board please dont make me buy a new one now :(((((((((((((

Well i plan to upgrade sometime down the line to LG 34UM95-P which has a native resolution of 3440 x 1440 so the cards you mention shouldnt have any issue supporting it as long as i use the Display port? But it looks like I have to read lots of reviews and do some research

For the 34UM95-P you will need to use DisplayPort if you want to use it at 60Hz, the HDMI connection won't be able to go higher than 50Hz on 3440x1440. I know HDMI 2.0 would support 3440x1440@60Hz, but I beleive the monitor only supports up to HDMI 1.4.

Also you'll need a powerfull videocard with a good bit of video ram if you want to play games on higher settings.

All I can think of when looking at that picture is the cables for the PCI-E power connectors.

haha. I've cleaned it up some since then.. It's a lot of cable! lol

Always found AMD cards give a not so much butter smooth output yet report high frame rates.

This information is outdated since they fixed their frame latency issues a long time ago.

I think you should wait for the 380X in that case (June), and get the Freesync variant of that monitor while you're at it. Unlocked Maxwell is also around the corner if the 970 fiasco didn't cause any delays.

One thing needs to be mentioned, Dying Light is a Gameworks title so it tends to run like ass on equivalent AMD cards.

Ask for the best, then complain about price.. Time to get an Xbox One or PS4 for gaming.

he asked for best settings since he is new to PC gaming and never had to play with settings before.

you know, how to set it up to perform better!

he did ask for good gpu -   good is not equal to best.   970 is very good and it can be had for barely over $300

no need to be so dismissive!  especially since you are a global mod...

a person new to PC gaming is told by a mod to go back to consoles when he asked for advice...   i find that very uncool.

Title of the topic was "Best GPU to play modern games" I came in at the end of the conversation because of a previous post before mine, it's painfully obvious that others thought the same thing I thought.

I have fixed the title of the topic to reflect the actual OPs question. No need to throw out a random snip at the end of your post, it was a obvious misunderstanding because of the post title.
