The feature does work here. Be aware that it is only supposed to work when you see this screen (Nothing is playing):

I have an idea what is causing this. I change the decoder a while ago. No-one complained during the previews or betas. So I assumed it was OK. I'll roll back that change and release 2.0.1. Then, decoding will be the same as in 1.5.14.

Edit: I created issue  #1093, and will use that issue to revert the decoder.

I apologize for the stupid question.  How do I get to this screen? When the player is played, there is always a song paused there.

Don't worry, it is not a stupid question. That screen is shown initially (after adding files the first time). The only way to go back to it, is to dequeue all songs form now playing.

so Raph, now that 2.0 has hit final do you plan 3.0 to be the multi-platform rewrite?

should be interesting to see what Dopamine is capable of written in electron :)

Yes indeed: 3.0 is the multi platform rewrite. Supported on Windows and Linux. Theoretically also on Mac. Although someone else would have to build and test it (as I don't own a Mac).

I'm interested too. I haven't done all the research yet. But seeing as web technologies have a lot of multi-media capabilities, I see a promising future for Dopamine.

With version 2.0 out of the way, development on 3.0 should get a boost.

Edit:

Dopamine code and issues were moved to https://github.com/digimezzo/dopamine-windows

This is the Dopamine 3.0 GitHub: https://github.com/digimezzo/dopamine

For all feature requests, please log an issue over there. I don't always guess right how people like to listen to their music. So if anyone has suggestions, don't hesitate to create issues via GitHub.

One idea: Add a button to open the collection from the small players (Nano, Cover and Micro).  To avoid having to switch to the main one when changing an album.

Hello, Raphaël. Congratulations on your hard work, first and foremost.

I have a question: in the Album pane, I select Sort by Year but there is no option to select ascending order (from oldest to newest), only descending. I like to hear an artist's discography in chronological order, from oldest album to the most recent album. But, by default, the program does the reverse..? That makes no sense, in my opinion.

This might sound silly, but it's the only reason why I can't commit to Dopamine as my main music player, even though I love everything else about it.

Can you do something about it, please?

EDIT: I have bookmarked this page and will be checking in regularly for any update, so if you only see this in a month or two rest assured I will read your reply. Cheers, my friend.

Hello! It will be nice if the update does not reset the settings and the "love" ratings do not disappear. After her "show love button" was turned off. And all my ratings were lost.

P.S. I have sent an update in the Bulgarian language of personal messages.

That's not supposed to happen :( I'll have a look at it. Thank for the translation update!

Amazon Music now has podcasts in the U.S., UK, Germany, and Japan
      by Rich Woods

Today, Amazon announced that it's adding podcasts to Amazon Music for customers in the U.S., UK, Germany, and Japan. They're available for all of the various tiers of the company's music services, and at no additional charge.

The company also said that it's going to be releasing a series of original podcasts, which of course will be exclusive to Amazon Music, similar to what Spotify has been doing. Some of these exclusives will be hosted by people like DJ Khaled, Becky G, Will Smith, and Dan Patrick. Amazon is also picking up the rights to the "music-meets-true-crime" podcast called Disgraceland.

"Our customers’ listening habits are constantly evolving, and we know they’re looking to us to provide them with a rich experience rooted in music and entertainment," said Steve Boom, VP of Amazon Music. "With this launch, we’re bringing customers even more forms of entertainment to enjoy, while enabling creators to reach new audiences globally, just as we’ve done with music streaming. Podcasts, paired with our recent partnership with Twitch to bring live streaming into the app, makes Amazon Music a premiere destination for creators."

Podcasts are available on Amazon Music starting today, and as mentioned, it's for all tiers, including the free one. You can listen using an Echo, the Amazon Music app, or on the web. If your podcast isn't listed yet, you can add it here.

Facebook will let partnered creators play copyrighted music during game livestreams
      by Jay Bonggolto

Facebook is making it easier for its partnered creators to play copyrighted songs in the background of their livestreams without running into legal issues. Facebook Gaming has teamed up with music labels and publishers to give its top streamers access to a vast library of songs that they can use while live-streaming games.

Leo Olebe, Global Director of Games Partnerships at Facebook, announced the latest change today. The songs covered include a variety of genres including current pop hits, dance floor beats, hip hop, and 80s classics. Access to copyrighted music is thanks to Facebook Gaming's partnerships with Universal Music Group, Warner Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment, Kobalt Music Group, BMG publishing, and Merlin. These licenses cover more than 90 countries.

It should be noted, though, that the licenses do not include every song. Some tracks are restricted and if players try to use those titles, they will receive a notification informing them of the restriction. However, Facebook didn't say which songs are not covered by the agreement.

Streamers must also make sure that their livestreams focus on the gaming aspect, not on the song being played. For now, access to copyrighted music will be rolled out first to partnered streamers. Facebook plans to eventually bring it to Level Up creators in the future, although they can still access a catalog of royalty-free music and sound effects through Facebook’s Sound Collection.

      foobar2000 1.6.1 Beta 4 [Update]
      by Razvan Serea

foobar2000 is an advanced freeware audio player for the Windows platform. It features the simplest, most minimalistic interface you'll ever see in this kind of program. Other features include full unicode support, ReplayGain support and native support for several popular audio formats.

      foobar2000 features:

Supported audio formats: MP3, MP4, AAC, CD Audio, WMA, Vorbis, FLAC, WavPack, WAV, AIFF, Musepack, Speex, AU, SND... and more with additional components. Gapless playback. Full unicode support. Easily customizable user interface layout. Advanced tagging capabilities. Support for ripping Audio CDs as well as transcoding all supported audio formats using the Converter component. Full ReplayGain support. Customizable keyboard shortcuts. Open component architecture allowing third-party developers to extend functionality of the player foobar2000 1.6 changelog:

Changed system requirements: Windows 7 and a processor with SSE2 instruction set. Windows XP is no longer supported. Default output mode is now WASAPI shared. New fading capability that works with alternate output modes. Default archive reader now supports 7-zip format. Added support for WebP album covers (Default UI, Properties dialog). Settings need to be changed to look for folder.webp instead of folder.jpg. Removed mixer volume sync feature due to bugs. Cleaned up foo_rgscan alter-file-content & alter-opus-header methods. Removed obsolete edit-replaygain-info menu command since Properties dialog does the same now. Added an option to disregard mouse back/forward buttons (by default mapped to previous/next track). Double clicking a line in Properties album art tab now opens a fullsize image viewer. Fileops & Converter: Added alternate handling of invalid filename characters, toggled in Advanced Preferences. Freedb component updated: now queries all configured servers and displays results grouped by server. Updated File Operations & Converter file name pattern picker dialog, now auto selects current pattern on open if possible. CDDA reading no longer requires admin privileges on Windows Server. Updated autoplaylist editing dialogs, made resizable. Standard DSP Array is no longer an optional component, as it's required for new WASAPI output to work correctly. Converter: Added a toggle for encoding thru temp folder to custom command-line encoder setup, required for some encoders that don't support Unicode. Added alternate menu commands for opening Properties dialog with specific tab open, for mapping keyboard shortcuts only. Improved recovery from unplugged audio output device. Additional editable Properties ReplayGain tab summary fields. Fixed crash when trying to alter gain on a Matroska file with no recognized audio track. Fixed incorrect handling of folder/file.ext relative paths in playlists served over HTTP/HTTPS/FTP. New portable install puts all configuration data in 'profile' subfolder of install folder instead of saving in the installation folder directly. Doesn't affect upgraded installs or non-portable. Fixed 'remove tags' not correctly stripping tags from raw AAC files. Fixed ZIP reader memory leak. Improved handling of last modification times in ZIP and RAR archives. Fixed a bug causing high CPU usage with autoplaylists that are force-sorted but with no pattern specified. Fixed installer incorrectly labelling some components as incompatible, if they have been installed by copying DLLs manually. Fixed incorrect handling of ID3 itunescompilation=0. Fixed a bug causing files with very long names inside ZIP archives to be unplayable. Changes in 1.6.1 Beta:

Added support for HLS: HTTP Live Streaming. To use, add internet M3U8 file through Add Location dialog. Enabled icy-metadata support for Ogg FLAC internet radio streams. Updated Properties / ReplayGain page layout if editing a single file. Improved Properties dialog performance, list of autocomplete entries is populated asynchronously. Enabled embedded album art loading from raw .AAC files with ID3 tags. Updated FFmpeg to 4.3.1. Added support for playing Matroska A_MS/ACM content. Fixes for rare AAC codec configurations that FFmpeg doesn't fully support - an add-on decoder can override the built-in one for such special cases.
