Monitor setup questions

Recommended Posts

Hey guys!

I have two brand new 23inch IPS Monitors and i'd like to use both of them with my Mac Mini and My custom PC Build. I have a Mini Display Port to HDMI converter already so both can plug into the Mac Mini but since I have to keep plugging and unplugging I was hoping there was a way I could just use some sort of switch to plug in my monitors to and switch both displays between my mac and my pc. Is this possible? I have a GTX 680 video card on the PC.

Yes you get HDMI switch if you have HDMI ports on both PC and Mac.

Unless you get DiplayPort to VGA adapter for Mac and you get VGA switch.

Monoprice.com has HDMI switch...  if you prefer VGA, then they have VGA switch as well.

So this will let me use both displays on both my pc and mac without plugging and unplugging? Do I need two of these? How would the setup go? Id be picking the HDMI.

Does your monitor have input source switch on your OSD screen?  If not, get this instead which has 2 input switch to 2 displays:

I have two Dell S2340L Monitors. I am not sure if it has a source switch option.  So I can use both my Mac and PC with duel screens with one of these? or two?

See if you have a button on your monitor and look on your screen and see which input you want to switch to, such as HDMI, VGA, DVI...

I am sure you have it since you have HDMI and DVI ports on back of your monitors.

Edit:

For example:  your Mac goes to your monitors via HDMI

and your PC goes to your monitors via DVI or VGA whichever you have available.

If this is too much for you, then you can get the switch I mentioned about 2 inputs and 2 displays.

So I have HDMI and VGA on the back of each one.  I found the source switch but I wanted the best picture for both the mac and the PC's

I have best picture on VGA on mine which looks same as HDMI on secondary monitor.

You can get the switch I mentioned, a few posts above.
