Autoexec.cam ???

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

What is this file called "AUTOEXEC.CAM" doing in the root of my "C:" drive ??? I just noticed it about 5 minutes ago.

Is it safe to delete ? Norton Antivirus2002 with the latest virusdefinitions doesn't find any viruses and TrendMicro Virus Scan doesn't either.

Bye,

Fonzie

It's probably a backup of your autoexec.bat made by a program, maybe a web cam related program. It should be ok to delete but it shouldn't cause any harm to leave it either. If you open it in notepad I would say it looks like your autoexec.bat minus the few lines that the program that backed it up added.

Yeah, I'd think it would be a backup. Like all '.bak' and '.old' files it is safe to delete. Only autoexec.bat is important... all others with similar names are not Windows files.

Hey,

Hmm, the AUTOEXEC.CAM file is 0 bytes

I really wonder where this came from. Hmm, better delete it then :) Or better yet, reinstall WindowsXP- although I had done so on the 24. of january.

Probably one of the ICQ messages I got- sent me this !? I must admit having lurked around on a website which offers me to view webcams of nice girls:D But I have never installed any of these webcam programs - I don't even own a webcam myself.

I'll see what happens if I delete the file.

BTW: Mortensen, have you got Danish relatives ?

I use autoexec.bat still to define paths for when I use a DOS box.

I think you've just answered my question:) I remember now, that I had done a online TrendMicro Virus scan that same day. Thanks, Spacedog!
