DirtyLarry Veteran Posted December 19, 2003 Veteran Share Posted December 19, 2003 okay i just finished prince of persia yesterday so i am looking for a new game to play for the holiday season. i saw beyond good & evil on the ubisoft site last night and now i am interested since ubisoft also made PoP. so has anyone played Beyond Good & Evil and if so is it worth getting? if not any other games you can suggest? i like FPS's mostly but now thanks to PoP i am also digging 3rd Person action/adventure games... spacey
i think BG&E uses the same engine as PoP so at least the graphics would be nice ;) aren't there any review sites out for it?
BroChaos Veteran Posted December 19, 2003 Veteran Share Posted December 19, 2003 i've heard BGE is pretty good.

DirtyLarry Veteran Posted December 19, 2003 Author Veteran Share Posted December 19, 2003 okay cool guys thanks for the superhuman fast responses (Y) in response to spacey i did read some reviews on "gaming" sites but i tend to trust my peers more than them i always think some kind of politics or something may be involved so i take them reviews with a grain of salt... and to everyone else i definetely am not looking for another PoP i can see how that game could be duplicated!!!! but if its any thing similar than im all about it... again thanks guys... im now looking forward to trying it out... DirtyLarry Veteran Posted December 19, 2003 Author Veteran Share Posted December 19, 2003 Check out XIII, made by Ubisoft also. Uber leet game. already got it hellbender but thanks for the recomendation and to anyone else who does not have XIII yet think about checking it out (Y)... i have a little issue personally with the fact that there is no quick save in XIII but other than that i really do dig it... i truly think if beyond good and evil is even half decent, UbiSoft gets my personal vote for gaming development company of 2003, strictly for the fact that there games are so diverse and original in concept and execution, and the gameplay itself for all of the games i have played has just been straight up fun. my hats off to UbiSoft!! +BeLGaRaTh Subscriber¹ Posted December 19, 2003 Subscriber¹ Share Posted December 19, 2003 Currently playing BGE, its actually very good. The only downside, for me anyway, is the lack of joypad support, but they keyboard mouse is still quite intuitive. For FPS it goes without saying that you should get Call of Duty, but you probably already tried and played that?

Quick save? Ever tried pressing F5, buddy? But I agree that Ubisoft is the gaming company of the year. Between masterpieces like PoP and XIII, to rainbow six and splinter cell, they definitely did something right :)

Between masterpieces like PoP and XIII, to rainbow six and splinter cell, they definitely did something right :) yep i have heard of F5 wiseass :D it does not work at all for me... it is actually a well documented bug with the game. go check out ubisoft's XII's forums and youll see im not crazy, ALOT of people also had that issue... im damn jealous actually that you can quick save... when i press F5 it says it is quick saving, but sure enough it is not.. Yep, its your standard WSAD affair, but as mentioned would be a lot better with joypad support, oh well .. PoP had joypad support, did you not use it? I used my PS2 pad along with my USB converter, worked perfectly :)
DirtyLarry Veteran Posted December 19, 2003 Author Veteran Share Posted December 19, 2003 hah, really? well, nevermind then  yeah, works fine for me. see what really ****es me off is it did seem to work for a little while, and then just stopped working all together... and when you say it works for you how does it work? when you die does it take you to the last place you quick saved at? or do you have to press F9 right before you die? casue i have read some people on the XIII forums do that F9 and it works for them too... but again the F9 trick does not work for me either... i actually stopped playing XIII for a little while hoping they would release a patch to fix it but then i had to start playing it again... out of curiosity do you have a nvidia or ati card and an amd or intel cpu? im just tryting to figure out why quck save works for some and not for others... I used my PS2 pad along with my USB converter, worked perfectly :) i just used the good old fashioned WSAD for PoP... most of the time the only time i whip out the joypad is for any EA Sports Games and actually for another EA Game NFSU (could not play that without a wheel or joypad im hoping i get the wheel for christmas)... its a bad habit i got myself into actually i just assume more often than not if Im on the PC use the standard keyboard mouse combo since I am so use to FPS's and that was all i played forever... i have to try to break free from that sooner than later... BroChaos Veteran Posted December 19, 2003 Veteran Share Posted December 19, 2003 i thought it was confirmed that the quicksave feature is NOT a bug? that's how it's supposed to work.
DirtyLarry Veteran Posted December 19, 2003 Author Veteran Share Posted December 19, 2003 i thought it was confirmed that the quicksave feature is NOT a bug? that's how it's supposed to work. i have heard everything under the sun in regards to this, so i really dont know whos right or wrong, but what really got me thinking is how hellbender says it works for him im just curious how and what does "work" mean... copied and pasted straight from the ubi soft tech site below, not the forums about a minute ago... it is dated 11.21.03 though so im not holding my breath... but they do say they are "looking into" it so if it was supposed to be that way i dont think they would be looking into it, but then right after that it just says XIII "will not automatically save your porgress blah blah blah"... so the fact they put two different things in the same tech note leaves me just as confused as ever... --> XIII Quick Save Problems Question I am having trouble with the Quick Save feature in XIII. After saving a game, I always start at the beginning of the level. Answer This is an issue we are currently looking into. You must use the Quick Save (F5), or the main menu Save option to be able to continue with your game, as XIII will not automatically save your progress. Once the game has been saved, you will start from the beginning of the level or from the last checkpoint.
HellBender
er... indeed, last check point for me. I thought that's what its supposed to do.. most games dont have a "true" quick save feature, save maybe splinter cell, because that makes the game too easy. But in that case, never mind. VazaGothic
And going back to BGE - Does anyone know a way to get hands on the soundtrack from that game ? It really rocks and I love it :) I would love to listen to it w/o having to run the game again and reaching the point where it is being played. Maybe a small ripping tool for the game or so ? Or maybe there's another way to get a music from a game ?
MxxCon
i'm about 6-7hours into the game and the biggest thing i miss so far is humor. for the way the game looks, it's style and sounds, i would expect to see/hear alot more "gaggs" and other funny things. poind
Personally haven't played any of these (yet?), but have heard quite good stuff about Beyond Good and Evil. Call of Duty does also repeatedly sound like a "must play", especially if you'd prefer a shooter over an adventure-style thing.
