Surface 3 is FANLESS!

Recommended Posts

Eh, Bay Trail performs respectably at decent speeds, but it supposedly doesn't support the full directx featureset which Cherry Trail does.

I like the idea of the Surface 3 but I don't need to spend the money.  We'll see.

Thank you.  Very few actually need an i3/5/7 unlikely most on Neowin would have you believe.

The fact that Intel make server class atoms should tell you enough about their performance.

Also, fanless PCs rock and don't overheat... so much ignorance it is unbelievable.

+1, well said.

I have a Dell Venue Pro 8 tablet with an Intel Atom Z3740D @ 1.33ghz. It boots Windows 8.1 Pro from power off to start screen / desktop in 3 seconds.

All the tablet modern apps i have used work fine, as do Microsoft Office, Google Chrome and all your general every day desktop apps. What more does the average person need from a little low powered device? It's not really a device your going to use Photoshop on, however I imagine it would work ok for light use if a 10" screen for editing is your thing...

Even less demanding games such as Counter-Strike: Global Offensive work really well with a Bluetooth mouse / keyboard, not that i'd really want to game on it, however it was interesting to see what the device could do.

I can only imagine the Atom x7-Z8700 @ 1.6ghz is going to work even better!

Atom "Bay Trail-T" (22 nm) z37xx series has SDP 2w to 2.2w, and the new "Cherry Trail-T" (14 nm) x5 x7 series has SDP 2w, that is why it can be fanless.

the major different right now that can be seen is the GPU, Bay Trail-T has only 4 EUs, while the new Cherry Trail-T x5 has 12 EUs, x7 has 16EUs.

battery life and other for this new generations of atom cpu still need to wait for real unit to benchmark

and the new Broadwell 14 nm Core M has TDP rated as 4.5w, SDP vary from 3.5w to 6w. intel said this can be fanless, but some laptop manufacturer still built a fan for it.

rest of intel laptop processor from lastest Broadwell 14 nm is 15w to 28w
