JadeWolf324
i think its a good thing the mods havent closed this, i think starman has the same right to say what he wants as everyone else, if you want to have your own opinion, let others have theirs. i think this thread is a great debate and im glad it stayed open as long as it did. threetonesun
Why the mods haven't shut your mouth yet is beyond my comprehension..Does anybody actually remember the topic ? And Starman, you can't go on 10 pages saying that linux is not worth **** for it code stability and drivers whatever, and when someone points out that it can kick your ass as a server say : oh yeah, but this is a gaming topic uh ! You are old, oh yes. We bow down to your oldness. But you might be the less mature jerk i've ever seen. Ah, have you been paying attention to what he's saying? Linux works great as a server, because that relies on a fairly limited set of programs/hardware that Linux works well with. When you try to apply that to the often unstable hardware of your average home desktop, and the extensive amount of games out there, Linux can't handle it yet. So on some levels, Linux does outright suck, and on other levels its great. Some people have been arguing that Linux is the be all end all OS, which it is very far from. Fuzzbling
If Linux ran a lot more games...Would you think about switching Operating Systems? OK, so I know that it isn't Linux's fault but the Game Creators for not making most games compatible with Linux, but if they did then would you think about swapping over? I think I would. Btw, I'm no Fanboy, just open minded. :) No, I don't think I would switch to any form of Linux. I don't think Linux has a place in the main stream market as a deaktop OS, gaming os or your grandma's OS. It makes a great server and I feel thats where it should stay. Now if BeOS found it's calling and development was taken over by a large well established company, I would be all over it. I feel BeOS could of been the superior OS, but I won't go there. :) I love Windows (2000 and newer, god I dread the 9x days :( ) and I don't forsee my self switching over to any other OS in the near future. Ah, have you been paying attention to what I'm saying? He disses Linux for whatever reason (mostly not gaming related issues) and when it comes to something he can't diss, he says it's off topic. My post was not intended as making a point for or against Linux in any way. Reading this thread makes me feel like there might be some other intelligent threads out there. I wish this thread never comes back in the 5 most recent on the front page. (sorry for those who have clicked on this thread and are now reading this pile of useless rants) (including my post, sorry) And yes, if Linux ran more games, it would bring more people to its user base, because uneducated people would not be refrained from using it, and because people like some here ;) won't be able to say : bah, linux sucks, there's no games for it. There. Edited December 24, 2003 by Dr.Jones
Midnight Mick
Kind of opened up a can of worms here didn't I?! Btw, being born in 67 does not make you old, well, it doesn't for me... :shifty: ;)

Lighthater
and this folks, is why i dont use linux......the community. unfriendly powermongering leetspeaking codewriting crackheads who argue about how much they know Don't hold the software responsible for the communities "issues" :D I am a linux (full time work, home server) and windows (work and home) user. Hate the people who are small minded, not the software.

Starman
He disses Linux for whatever reason (mostly not gaming related issues) and when it comes to something he can't diss, he says it's off topic. If you want to start a non-gaming Linux thread, go ahead. Post a link and I'll be there. However, this is a g-a-m-i-n-g thread. As someone here already said, every OS has its purpose. In my opinion, it's for servers. Look at what I dismissed Linux as: Good gaming platform Good Office suite Good UI Good hardware support In fact, the reason why I tried Linux last year was to replace my Windows XP machine I was using as a file server. Since I couldn't get any friggin' video out of it, I decided to go with OS X Server instead (which I'm still using BTW). So again, make a non-gaming Linux thread. Mike Douglas
well give it a try now, you were probably using GNOME 1.4 with an early version of OpenOffice; both weren't very mature programs at the time. I didn't even start using Linux until around Red Hat 9 because it was too unpolished in the desktop area. Download the Fedora Core 1 (fast mirror at ftp://ftp.telus.net) and tell us your experience after that. if you need any help you can contact me on AIM at themonkeycode or MSN at me@c-monkey.net

skaife
Why doesnt everyone fking calm down? I think it is rather obvious that starman meant he has used *nix i.e. UNIX since the mid-80's. Any dip**** can figure that out. As for you people flaming him, you don't do yourselves any justice by saying crap like "YOU DONT KNOW **** ABOUT LINUX" etcetera. Personally attacking someone has got absolutely no relevance to the issue and doesn't help your cause. Grow up, stop trying to impress people by typing capital letters and calling people 'n00bs', and get a life. My reply to the original question: Proper gaming support on Linux most likely wouldn't change my current setup. At the moment, I use both Linux and Windows, for different purposes. Neither is perfect, and never will be. I barely ever play games anyway...
