Deisel Weisel
Where do I go to check that, Tony? Just looked under Apearance & Personalization, and didn't spot it. I'm not familiar with Vista.
zhangm Supervisor Posted April 6, 2015 Supervisor Share Posted April 6, 2015 At least on Windows 8, the controls for Cleartype can be invoked by typing cleartype into the search box. It should work similarly on Vista.
Ian W
Please follow the instructions listed below to determine whether ClearType is enabled. These instructions are taken from Microsoft's webpage, titled "Make test easier to read using ClearType." To turn on ClearType Open Appearance Settings by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clicking Appearance and Personalization, clicking Personalization, and then clicking Window Color and Appearance. If the Appearance Settings dialog box is not displayed, at the bottom of the page, click Open classic appearance properties. Click Effects. In the Effects dialog box, select Use the following method to smooth edges of screen fonts. Select ClearType in the list, and then click OK. Do you by any chance have update KB3013455 installed? You can determine which updates you currently have installed by following the instructions listed here. I ask because KB3013455 is known to cause font corruption on some installations. If you determine that you have the update installed a fix is available here.
goretsky Supervisor Posted April 7, 2015 Supervisor Share Posted April 7, 2015 Hello, Try uninstalling Windows Security Update KB3013455, rebooting, and then reinstalling it. The first release of this update caused some problems with fonts that made them look blocky or blurry. This was fixed in a subsequent update of the patch a few days later. Regards, Aryeh Goretsky
