+Warwagon MVC Posted April 9, 2015 MVC Share Posted April 9, 2015 So I made the leap to a 5.5 inch LG G3 Phone. I found a steal on eBay. Got the LG G3 32GB Model for $270 Free shipping. The thing looks brand new. I now activated it on Verizon prepaid. What was great is who ever had the phone last never did any updates. So the phone was still on 4.4.2 and 10B which means they hadn't blocked the rooting. So I was easily able to root the phone and install CM12. So far so good Mando, Draconian Guppy, Charisma and 3 others 6 Share
HawkMan
You don't need to root the phone to instal another rom.... Personally I was never a fan of or happy with CM anyway, it had much worse performance and didn't really add anything. Personally I was never a fan of or happy with CM anyway, it had much worse performance and didn't really add anything. I've had to root mine to flash ROMs depending on model. And CM had much better performance for me on my S3. I'm sure it varies from phone to phone and ROM to ROM. Good price on that phone with 32GB. Ironman273
I recently got a G3 also. Put CM12 on it but it was too buggy for me. Went back to stock (took the long way around by trying Cloudy G3, Paranoid Android and Candy 5). Almost everything is changeable except I miss the Lollipop dialer and drop down settings. Also, mine was on Lollipop when I got it but I was able to root it anyways. Not sure why people were saying you couldn't root Lollipop. +Warwagon 1 Share
Charisma Veteran Posted April 9, 2015 Veteran Share Posted April 9, 2015 Nice! I think I'm holding out for the S6 Active... but it won't be as well-priced as that for sure. Good find!

Ironman273
I wish I could tell you exactly why I took it off but I honestly can't remember. Lots of little things that built up for me. One tip, if your lockscreen "freezes" try unlocking it by swiping 5 fingers. Weird, but it works. What about that screen though.... INSANE!! +Warwagon MVC Posted April 9, 2015 Author MVC Share Posted April 9, 2015 So far I'm loving it. No lag. This one has 3gb of ram
firey
It's crazy how powerful the phones are becoming in such a short time. I mean I had an Atrix 4 years ago and it was like the first dual core mainstream phone.. now quad is standard.
+Warwagon MVC Posted April 9, 2015 Author MVC Share Posted April 9, 2015 The Moto G was nice, but because of the 1GB of ram it lagged. ... A LOT. If I were to open up facebook messenger, gmail and the web browser. When I would go back to Facebook i'd be looking at a white screen for a few seconds until it would be loaded back into memory On this phone with the 3GB of ram... I had Maps, Store, Gmail, Chrome, settings, messenger, Facebook, Phone, Invoice to go and Skype. and it's blink blink speed switching between any one of those open apps. Also the Trusted device lock screen of Android 5 is just as nice as I thought it would be. If my trusted Bluetooth Moto 360 watch is within range of my phone, No keypad lock screen.. If it's not, the lock screen is keypad locked. SOOOOO Sweet. As far as CM12 it's been super stable and FAAAAAAAST.
+Warwagon MVC Posted April 9, 2015 Author MVC Share Posted April 9, 2015 A short video I made. I wish I had turned the brightness up on the screen ... oops! When I said my phone was blinking at me, I meant my Camera was. It had barely any battery power left. I also have all of the animations turned off under the developer mode options. tsupersonic
Good price and great device - I think these bottom out at like $260 on swappa. You should've waited a little bit longer - the G4 is releasing, and these should've dropped in price a little bit more.

Ironman273
OK, so all your talk made me want to go back and try CM12 again. Still happy with it? Are you using the Alpha nightlies?

You feel that strongly about price that you had to post 5 times? For a high end used phone, that is a good price, considering you now own it outright. Enjoy man. I honestly can't wait to see what LG does with the G4. I am not so convinced by the One M9 or the ridiculously overblown Galaxy S6. +E.Worm Jimmy Subscriber¹ Posted April 11, 2015 Subscriber¹ Share Posted April 11, 2015 i am tempted to pick one of myself... my htc one m7 has being though so much, that the top part above the screen is completely exposed. however the battery life is terrible and the phone now takes 5-6 hours to charge, so if it dies, there is no way to get it working unless i overnight charge it. i don't feel like spending $700 on new flagships (i am not a contract person anymore) so i was looking at chinese lesser know phones. picking this phone up at the price you got it, seem to make sense. i might still try to stretch my phone till G4 comes out.. can you easily swap battery on G3? i assume so, because if i am getting second hand, i want to make sure the battery is replaceable. Wow that's amazing. I'm using mobile neowin which sucks balls.. l yes, yes it does. news are fine but forums are totally crap to use on the phone. I'm home now, at an actual computer. I'm using the CM12 nighties yes. I'm currently running off 04182015. I tried to install the new one but when it wanted to reboot it said error. But oh well. I"ll figure that one out later that was using cyan delta. can you easily swap battery on G3? i assume so, because if i am getting second hand, i want to make sure the battery is replaceable. Yes battery is totally replaceable $14 on Amazon. Remove the back cover... BAM!. One thing i'm also loving about the G3 is the double tap on the screen to wake up and the double tap on the status bar to put to sleep. Soooooo nice!
