Si Veteran Posted December 21, 2003 Veteran Share Posted December 21, 2003 Ok, I know that iptables is what I want for a firewall, however I would like to know if there is a Linux program similar to the Windows personal firewalls that allows you to control outgoing connections? Has anyone heard of such an app?
LordHatrus
Yes there are linux apps that do this. I don't remember the name of mine, it was built into my slackware distro...

Si Veteran Posted December 21, 2003 Author Veteran Share Posted December 21, 2003 ...or not :( "Shorewall Cannot: * Be used to filter traffic through a Layer 2 Bridge * Act as a "Personal Firewall" that allows internet access by application. * Be used with an Operating System other than Linux (version >= 2.4.0) * Do content filtering:"
Chicane-UK Veteran Posted December 21, 2003 Veteran Share Posted December 21, 2003 Well iptables can do both data in and out.. its a very very powerful piece of software. Problem is its just damn hard to use.. I did cover it on my Red Hat training earlier this year, but it was just so awkward my mind kinda automatically blocked it for me. You need some kind of GUI / front end application to help you work it out..
