installing video driver - linux

Recommended Posts

I recently installed Mandrake Linux 9.2 on my computer as part of a dual boot configuration. The install went ok, however my video card wasn't supported (ATi Radeon 9600 Pro), so i linux couldnt load a gui. Using xp, i found the driver on the ATi website. My question is how do i install it?

Uhh... The download should have come with instructions (either on their website, or a 'readme' part of a .tar.gz file).

you have a radeon 9600 with a p1 133 mghz cpu? lol

i am assuming you downloaded the fglrx rpm ... login as root, then type "rpm -i fglrx*.rpm".... assuming all goes well then you can run "fglrxconfig", answer the questions regarding your hardware, options you would like to use etc... and then type "startx"..

if you have some troubles with that, post your specs like your motherboard chipset (if its a via kt400 you could be in trouble but i can help you out with that) and post your "/etc/X11/XF86Config-4" file, as well as what happens when you type startx.
