jedimasterk
Tried installing Slackware 9.1 four times last night, but alot of problems. Could not install Lilo at all, even to a floppy disc, and after installing (full install of all software), booted from boot disc and at the login prompt, I couldn't even type root , because keyboard stopped functioning. Would work during boot process, but constantly stops working when you need to login. I have a Dell QuietKey keyboard (US). I works fine with SuSE and Knoppix, but not Slackeware 9.1. What did I do wrong, or is this a bug in Slackware 9.1?.
sui'ke
are you using an usb keyboard ? that could be the issue... if it is, put it on the ps/2. it worked for me and then u can disable it in the kernel to, gives u a litle extra powa :D

jedimasterk
I did the Md5 checksum when I burned the iso's to disc. Could it have something to do with the "bare.i".
jedimasterk
It is just when I get to the login prompt. "darkstar login". The cursor just blinks.
MegaManXcalibur
When you installed Slackware and it asked you to select an image what did you select? If you selected a different image (instead of just canceling and sticking with the one that is installed by default) it could cause a problem. At least it did for me. But his is entirley personal experience and I didn't do any further research on the subject.
jedimasterk
What do you mean by select an image. Also what if their is a problem with having a ps2 keyboard and usb mouse. I could use the ps2 adapter on my mouse and then try that. Maybe their is a conflict somewhere. Also what about Lilo, my other problem. It won't even install on a formated floppy during setup. I get ERROR#1 and am told to install later. Everything installed flawlessly, with the exception of Lilo and the keyboard freezing during login. I tried installing it on a seperate harddrive all by itself, with same results. Used Knoppix and SuSE to see if Slackware had installed files, and their was files on root directory of the Slackware root partition.
jedimasterk
I wish Slackware would have just used GRUB in their distro, like every other modern Linux distribution, SuSE for example, instead of Lilo!. Suse 8.2 works flawlessly, with GRUB, and I can even boot Windows XP Pro on my first harddrive with GRUB.
jedimasterk
Figured out problem, had installed mouse as ps2, choose USB instead, and did not load Lilo till It worked. Install finally worked, was able to login. Configured Slackware to boot with Grub. First SuSE, Slackware, and Windows XP. Triple os system works fine. Slackware seems to work better over all then SuSE, but alot more command line to learn. Need to buy the books now. :D
volrathxp
Grub certainly is better than Lilo IMO, glad you got this all worked out. :)
sui'ke
why wouldn't you be able to boot windows with lilo ...
MulletRobZ
I had problems with LILO in Slackware 9.1, but not in 9.0. Try going back to 9.0, man.
MegaManXcalibur
I always had good luck with LILO.
Tek
How did you install LILO? To the MBR? I had troubles with my keyboard in Slackware 9.1 due to my processor being overclocked too much. Is yours overclocked? I remember reading another post on this forum about someone else's keyboard not working in Slackware, with another solution. https://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?show...0entry1383502 Edited December 28, 2003 by Tek
