Suposedly this all happened on a fault line that had not been discovered yet. Well, its discovered now!

Yeah, I guess so.

I wonder how many other fault lines there could be that are not yet discovered.

The quake hit me kinda oddly(Location? San Fernando Valley - bout 100 mi away from epicenter)

I was drinking coffee and reading the paper....thought i was falling back on the chair at first....stood up, and just shrugged it off thinking I needed more coffee....after about 10 seconds of it not stopping, and my dogs freaking out, I was like, whoa, earthquake....

Fun times, but 3 people dead(thus far 03:20 pm PST) :(

Haha thought the topic was from Freaky Friday.

Here in Sweden we never have quakes.. never felt one in a foreign country either, although I want to.. just not big one.. :)

I've lived in California since 1990 and we've had some big ones. I live in LA right now though...and DAMN, I was sittin at the comp and the monitor starting shaking and I stood up and the ground was rumbling so bad I was having difficultly walking and crap was fallin off the walls a bit. I was enjoying it though, thought it was hilarious! But then again, when you live in southern california, right on the San Adreas fault line, you're used to having a small tremor here and there so it's all good. It doesn't scare me, alot of the buildings in southern california are sturdy enough to support up to a 7.0 quake. :D

I've felt one....here in Illinois.

Madrid fault. They say when it goes, it's gonna put California to shame. <shudder>

We definitely felt it in L.A. It was a gentle rolling for about 40 seconds. didn't know it was an earthquake at first, I thought I was getting sick!.

Some of the largest earthquakes in the lower 48 states were on the New Madrid fault, in 1811 and 1812.

Most new faults are discovered when earthquakes occur on them, like the one we had in Northridge, CA in 1993. I lived 15 miles SE of that epicenter. Rock and Roll!

I live just south of Paso Robles, where the most damage occurred. Fortunately, other than the loss of power, everything's fine. It was the first earthquake I've experienced, despite having lived in California 6 years.

It really is an indescribable feeling.

You came to CA just in time to miss the 89 quake, 7.1 I believe. Caused some major damage. It was a pretty scary time. The phones were down so you couldn't call family to see if they were ok. The cars on the road were at a dead stop, no electricity. You might have moved there in time to see some of the after effects....scary times

Damn, I just found out the quake hit above Cambria! I got the impression the epicenter was down south, haha. Well, anyhow, all you who live in the Central Coast stay safe, too.

On the news, a few Geologists from Fresno State said they weren't surprised where the quake initiated.

Ahhhhh, shoot, there's not a better state than CAL-i-FORN-i-A (lame Arnold voice). Really, there's not. Mountains, rivers, oceans, deserts, big cities, little cities, major diversity.

I agree with the previous poster, I'd rather go through an earthquake than a tornado/hurricane any day.

Any of you other Californians heard of earthquake weather? If I remember correctly, in just about every quake I've been witnessed to in 23 years, it's always cloudy or the air is really cold. Same thing as yesterday. Coincidence, probably.
