Looking for All-In-One Printer

Recommended Posts

I'm interested in an All-In-One Printer. I have a ton of papers saved, just filling up a filing cabinet and would like to convert them all into digital form like by year, so hopefully the printer I linked below can scan more than 1 document into a PDF. The HP Officejet Pro 6830 Wireless All-In-One Inkjet Printer has definitely caught my eye.

Can anyone recommend others that might be better?

Any HP OfficeJet printer is a good choice.  I bought the 8600 Pro a little over 2 years ago, and the thing is a powerhouse.  Excellent print quality, and since it's a network printer, it updates itself since it's connected directly to the Internet.  I would say get it.

Can you scan multiple documents into one PDF?

With wanting to go digital you would think a "printer" is the last thing you would want ;)

Wouldn't a document scanner make more sense.  For example you could get the gt-1500 refurbed for under 100$

http://www.amazon.com/Epson-WorkForce-Sheet-Fed-Automatic-B11B190011/dp/B001B90Q94

Can hold 40 pages in the feeder, does manual doublesided scanning and to pdf or email, etc. etc.. Comes with document management software.

Or say something like this

http://www.amazon.com/Brother-ADS1000W-Compact-Wireless-Networking/dp/B00EKW6JGI/ref=pd_sim_229_6?ie=UTF8&refRID=1AASYDNRGVYPSY9BR7WN

Such a device is more likely to come with OCR and document management software, etc.

I figured an All-In-One would be better, since it could also print. Wouldn't I still need to keep my printer if I got this?

Like Budman said, a All in one print while capable of scanning, it might not be the right solution for you since the scanning part of it is slow and can't hold more then a couple of pages in the feeder. Also it comes with HP OCR software, but only testing it you can see if it is enough for you.

A good scanner would be more fitting for you since it can have very good OCR capability and can also have document management. Also depending the brand and the software, you can scan multiple documents into the same PDF natively; else you can use CutePDF, Bullzip or any other software that does the same thing (natively is best since it's faster and with less human intervention).

I've also used a good Fujitsu scanner that scanned non stop for a couple of years; the software that comes with it (ScandAll) it's just great.

yeah if you want to print you would need a printer.. Not a fan of inkjet, I have a color laser printer.. Inkjet dry out all the time if our not using them - and if your using them the cost of ink you might as well be printing in liquid gold ;)  Per oz is got to be the most expensive ###### on the planet - you would think it cures cancer or something..

couple years old

http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/magazine/2013/08/the-high-cost-of-wasted-printer-ink/index.htm

toner for my printer is way more cost effective.

I have a hl-3170cdw that I got back dec 2013 and still using the ink that it came with.

Maintenance Information
Model Name Brother HL-3170CDW series
Device Status
Page Counter 474
Color 317
B&W 157
Image Count Total 1389
Cyan 309
Magenta 310
Yellow 305
Black 465

Toner Cyan ** (60.00%)
Toner Magenta ** (60.00%)
Toner Yellow ** (60.00%)
Toner Black **  (40.00%)

So looks like have half of the initial toner it came with, and its what 1.5 years old.  So if get another 1.5 years out of it before have to replace ink.. Prob just get new printer  ;)  But if had to buy toner for it looks to be under $100 for like 5 times the ink the printer came with that has lasted me over 1.5 years.  I don't do a whole lot of printing.. But who does these days?  With the inkjets, like every time would go to print freaking ink was dried up because hadn't printed in couple of weeks, etc.

Which is the high yield and 2 black cart, etc. etc..

What printer do you have now?  Happy with it?
