I thought it was more to do with Sony funding SFV that's kept it off competing consoles?

I mean of course, it's a minefield trying to wade through corporate PR...

It is a minefield, but something like cross-play would require the close gameplay/development purpose they speak of. It's not required for the game to be made. Capcom can make SF games in their sleep.

Well, this could be a ruse :p

I don't see the logic in it. Sony are hardly flush.

Well yes, I probably have more money than them in my wallet right now... And I'm sure it's only coppers :p Maybe a little silver.

was hoping for a PS3 price cut LOL.

Now that you mention it I was expecting that as well. Or more specifically I was expecting them to announce the 1TB PS4 at $400 and cut the current 500GB version to $350 until inventory was gone.

I may have just missed it but I haven't seen anything official about a 1TB PS4 yet.

I was impressed by MS conference, but not blown away like they were hyping.

For me the single biggest announcement has been the Xbox One backwards compatibility but I wouldn't say the whole MS keynote was great.

For some reason the hype before the conference lead me to believe there would be A LOT more Win10/DX12 PC stuff than what we got and the lack of that was equally disappointing to me as the lack of Project Morpheus info at the Sony keynote.

I do think HoloLens is super freaking cool though but that doesn't have anything to do with consoles so I don't really see that as part of the Xbox vs. PlayStation fan war.

Sony likes to keep their price cut news for GamesCom historically. They'll probably do it at Paris Game Week instead seeing as they're skipping GC.

was hoping for a PS3 price cut LOL.  I think I might be too jaded now.

Don't think it'll ever happen. For once the PS3 goes for less than a third of what it used to, and also it still sells like it was 2006 (probably better at that lol). I mean it's still pretty huge in Europe, pretty sure that where I live (Greece) it outsells the PS4 and xbone (definitely the xbone). Hell, if my PS3 broke after the warranty expired I'd almost certainly get another one cause there's so many games to play and you can buy them for peanuts. definitely too early to get a PS4 IMO

Thanks to the CELL I don't think it'll ever get really cheap.

Pro COD is played on xbox and MS put millions in the prize pool for MLG\COD Champs.

Activision care about money, the PS4 is almost 2:1 of the Xbox, Activision made a choice. This isn't MS' fault, well, unless you want to say well done MS the Xbox One sales aren't good enough. Rabid COD fanboys should direct anger at Activision.

The sane Xbox COD fans will realize just like sane PS4 fans for years, they're still getting to play their beloved game. Pro tournaments will just have to shift, and I bet all these crybabies happily switch when money and internet cred is up for grabs. Or you know, pro tournaments can just wait a few weeks and stay Xbox.

Timed DLC is ridiculously stupid, but this is Activision, if you want to sleep in their bed with the COD franchise you gotta realize one camp is getting screwed each time, and your turn will always come around at some point.

This isn't a 1st party Xbox title, it's 3rd party.

It's the pro scene that is crying and tournament organizers. Which this move might hurt their pocket book. Also for console fps pro players prefer xbox controllers over ps controllers.  Microsoft has been putting tons of money into Esports and Sony has not.

Waiting a month extra isn't a big deal.

So you agree with me then, bitch at Activision. I don't think for a second anyone is going to think Sony can like for like outbid MS, they can't. So Activision either chose install base or MS didn't care enough to even foot the bare minimum amount Sony could afford. I guess if it's MS that didn't care about these precious tournaments and e-sports they've to put in your words, put tons of money into, then yeah, bitch at them I guess. I think that's a bit unlikely, if MS are understood to be as pro-COD as people make out. Activision simply makes their own decisions and have no allegiance other than backing the biggest install base.

Anyway, here's an interview from Adam Boyes

MS does care about Esports, they have been putting millions in MCC tournament scene and halo5 will be their new focus. Teaming up with ESL and putting money into MKX and KI3.

MLG and other TO are scared that MS is going to pull thier support.

"Bttch at Activision"  that's what the scene is doing.....The scene simply doesn't want to be force to play on ps4.

Yeah... bitch at Activision for timed exclusive DLC practices, but absolutely no one, them included, are forcing anyone to play on PS4. No one was forced to play on 360, unless your argument you're making now applies to what happened last generation as well. As I said above, this is not a 1st party title, MS do not own it. MS can do what they want at esports events with their 1st party stuff, but it doesn't matter how much money they put into the events, that doesn't give them reigns over 3rd party titles.

No, I don't think you do. No one is forcing anyone to play on any platform. There are pro PS4 players you know? Tournaments do not have a monopoly on Xbox only, and professional players do not all play on Xbox. Everyone survived in the PS3 and 360 days, everyone will now. So the only valid thing to bitch about is timed exclusivity on DLC.

WOW Really.....You keep on bringing up DLC. When it's about the Tournaments(COD Champs) being only held on ps4.

Majority of console FPS pro scene are xbox players. I'm sure pro players will make the move to ps4 if they have to.But i can also see why people are bitching and why tournament organizer like MLG are bitching about it.

    • *Engage pedantic mode* The Atari VCS (not known as the Atari 2600 until November 1982) was release in North America on September 11th 1977. Hamida Djandoubi was executed at 4:40am on the 10th September 1977, in Marseille France. Due to the time zones (6 hours difference), that would have been 10:40pm September 9th in North America. Given the VCS probably didn't officially go on sale until shops opened at 9am, then the difference might be closer to 34 hours. /Pedant
    • KDE's native virtual machine manager, Karton, inches closer to potential stable release by David Uzondu Nearly two months ago, we told you about Karton, a project by Google Summer of Code student Derek Lin, which is hoped to replace tools like virt-manager and GNOME Boxes as a native option for KDE Plasma users. A few weeks into the official coding period, Lin, the major contributor to the project, has published an update, showing how the project's coming along, as we near a possible stable release. The first thing you should know is that the virtual machine installer we mentioned last time has been merged into the main branch. This change gets rid of the dependency on virt-install entirely. Instead, Karton now uses libosinfo to identify the operating system from a disk image and generates the necessary libvirt XML configuration on its own. As part of this, Lin also updated QML modules, which are KDE's building blocks for creating user interfaces. These are now used for a more standard way of handling application components. Most of the recent work, however, has focused on building a SPICE client from scratch. SPICE, if you're unaware, is a remote desktop protocol that handles rendering the guest's display, audio, and inputs. Lin said he spent a lot of time just getting the virtual machine's display to show up properly inside a native KDE window. The process of taking the raw display data from SPICE and drawing it on screen was tricky. At first, the image was full of weird colors and transparency glitches. After trying different ways to handle the image data, he discovered the root cause was a timing problem: his code was trying to read the display data at the same moment SPICE was trying to write it, causing a garbled mess. The fix was simple enough: he just made a quick copy of the data before displaying it, and it ended up looking much better: With the display rendering, user inputs like mouse clicks and keyboard presses are now forwarded to the virtual machine. A small headache is that Qt key events use evdev scancodes while SPICE expects the older PC XT format, forcing a manual mapping for now. After months of hard work, here's a screen recording of Karton running a Fedora virtual machine: From the video, things are quite laggy when you scroll, but this should be addressed in a future update. As for what's next, Lin acknowledges the current rendering method is inefficient and causes tearing. He hopes to investigate SPICE's gl-scanout property for more optimized performance. He also plans to implement audio forwarding and proper mouse drag events, as well as rework the UI to include a sidebar, like you have in UTM, the virtual machine manager designed for Apple platforms like macOS. If you're interested in the project, you can check out its GitLab page and read Lin's full update on the KDE Blogs.
