Accessing Bluetooth Settings?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I've been using 8.1 for several weeks now, and so far I think I've got most things figured out. However, the one thing that is bugging me at the moment is the Bluetooth settings.

It would seem that the only way to access the Bluetooth settings is through the PC settings. While that's easy enough, I really don't need my whole screen focusing on one function. Is there some sort of desktop ability, maybe accessing the options through the control panel? I'm looking for something that would turn the bluetooth on and off and let me connect to devices.

Is this possible with 8.1, or would a third party program be needed? Also slightly on topic, has this changed in Windows 10, or is there still the PC Settings app to go through?

Cheers all!

My lenovo boots to the desktop.  There is a bluetooth icon in the sys tray.  If I select it I can open settings, but if I want to add a device it goes to the metro app to search for devices.

however, if you go to add printers (the old printers setup/management) you will be able to add bluetooth devices there by clicking on Add a device.

from a run prompt (ctrl r)

control printers

this will bring you to the add bluetooth device full screen app (or at least should)

run prompt

bthprops.cpl

Yeah, this is where I've got to as well. My Lenovo has the bluetooth icon in the system tray, but selecting the options takes me to the metro app.

I've also tried going through the printer option under the control panel, but that doesn't offer me the ability to switch the bluetooth on and off.

Oh well. It's not the end of the world, it's just quite inconvenient. Maybe it's changed in Windows 10, I guess I'll find out soon enough.

Did you visit the Control Panel applet? C:\Windows\System32\bthprop.cpl

It is hidden by default in Windows 7 onward.

Edit: I just saw the post that you replied to. My apologies.

Edit: Have you seen this?

No worries, I appreciate the input. Yes I did, but that launches the metro app. (Y)

Ah, Nick H., just so there is no confusion, have you seen this? On my end it opens a Control Panel Explorer window for Bluetooth-related settings; however, the "Bluetooth Settings" option does not work for me

you could go in the hardware tab, and disable/enable the bluetooth adapter as needed...this would do the same as on and off.
