I doubt it has as much to do with pride as it has to do with this

 

If Nintendo ever get out of the hardware business, then I am sure they'll sell their 1st party titles to whoever will buy them.

They were losing money (much like NIntendo up until quite recently) for a long while before eventually going out of the hardware business. It's a pride thing.
