am_fek
Title says it all really. I've noticed lately that the Finder isn't recognising that a recently-burned CD-R has been ejected, if that CD-R was burned using another app like Backup 2 or iTunes. I'll burn the CD using those apps and eject it from within them, but the 'blank CD' will still sit in the Finder sidebar until I path up to the 'my computer' level, right click, and ask it to eject the disc. It doesn't do that obviously, as there's no disc left in the drive, but it boots the icon off the devices section of the sidebar. Anyone else experience this? And know of a way to prevent it? Thanks :)

DirtyLarry Veteran Posted January 7, 2004 Veteran Share Posted January 7, 2004 are you using Panther cause i am and i was having a similar problem with my burned disks. i would burn a disk (or dvd) and it would not verify it, telling me "the verification process could not be completed and the disk may not work" or something like that, and then when i put the disk in it would not mount on the desktop or read it in anyway it unless i totally re started, luckily what i burned was indeed on it but still it bothered me... so since i paid for my apple care tech support i decided to use it and called them... 1) Move from your Home Folder / Library / Preferences / the file com.apple.finder.plist to your desktop (dont delete it yet). 2) Also from Home Folder / Library / Preferences / move the entire folder ByHost to your desktop (dont delete it yet). 3) Also Also from Home Folder / Library / move the entire folder Caches to your desktop (dont delete it yet). 4) Log off your user. log back on (warning deleting com.apple.finder.plist will reset your Finders settings making your dock and any view options back to default). See if the problem is fixed (i burned a test CD and it verified it and mounted right away) If the problem is fixed that is it. You can safely delete those 3 items from your desktop as they will rebuild themselves. i am curious to know if this helped you cause it definitely helped me, don't know how or why but it did. If it does not help you you can just copy the 3 files and folders back to their original spots or just start fresh. Good Luck (Y)

Good Luck (Y) Yup I'm using Panther, my problem was somewhat like yours, I didn't have to reboot to get it to work though i would jsu eject the cd a few times then insert a DVD or a cd that had stuff on and it would mount that, once mounted eject it and put in the blank... about 75% of the time it would work, I will try this fix when I get home. Thanks in advance if it works ;)
