mrchetsteadman
Don't mean to flood the wall but I'm at the final bulld stages before buying. I have 1866 now and wonder if I will see a noticeable difference in performance. Also, should I jump to 16GB?
The Evil Overlord
16's good, it'll be deemed as unnecessary but what the heck, I'm using 32, also save your cash and stick with the 1866, it's what I'm using (corsair vengeance) Some will argue that it makes little difference in real time use, and some will argue benchmarks (unless I've missed something, which is quite possible, I'm not the most educated on the matter) Also how you use your computer is a factor, if you've got the newest i7 Extreme with all the bells and whistles, then 2400 will benefit you Actually, strike that, if you were building a 'money is not a problem' rig, you'd go 32gb anyways mrchetsteadman 1 Share

Jason S. Global Moderator Posted June 25, 2015 Global Moderator Share Posted June 25, 2015 you want to call this thread solved, C-Squarez? imo you wont notice the difference w/ the faster RAM. Also, some CPUs wont even reach 2400MHz without tweaking. i think i read in your other thread that you're doing some video/photo work. in that case, you might want to spring for the 32GB, but im sure you can upgrade in the future if necessary. Anibal P
save your cash by sticking with 1866 ram but "the heck, go with unnecessary ram amounts?? Since when is 32gb "unnecessary"? And who made you arbitrator of what is or isn't "necessary" ? The Evil Overlord 1 Share

mrchetsteadman
I'm re-purposing old parts and already have RAM. I was going to upgrade but if I wont notice a difference then there is no point. I have this RAM. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231460
Mouettus
Since when is 32gb "unnecessary"? And who made you arbitrator of what is or isn't "necessary" ? It's my opinion based on my knowledge of computer specs and use over the years. That's what forums are for. If you're unable to have an adult conversation and listen to different inputs from different people, then I'd suggest cutting the cord and locking yourself in. If you're unable to have an adult conversation and listen to different inputs from different people, then I'd suggest cutting the cord and locking yourself in. I never actually said I was an expert, I even conceded that there are users here who know more about this than I. Going back to my original quote... 16's good, it'll be deemed as unnecessary but what the heck, I'm using 32, also save your cash and stick with the 1866, it's what I'm using (corsair vengeance) Some will argue that it makes little difference in real time use, and some will argue benchmarks (unless I've missed something, which is quite possible, I'm not the most educated on the matter) Also how you use your computer is a factor, if you've got the newest i7 Extreme with all the bells and whistles, then 2400 will benefit you Actually, strike that, if you were building a 'money is not a problem' rig, you'd go 32gb anyways I can see how the confusion was drawn, I was posting from my phone, and don't have the patience I have when posting from my pc, what I meant was; 16GB of 1866MHZ RAM is good. (I should've started another sentence from 'What the heck') So I suggested OP Save some money and stick with the lower clocked RAM Hope that clears that up edit (With hindsight, It would probably would've been less confusing if I didn't mention having 32GB of RAM)
Andre S. Veteran Posted June 26, 2015 Veteran Share Posted June 26, 2015 There is one if you use the integrated graphics, as they use RAM as VRAM and tend to be extremely starved for bandwidth. But spending 100$ on trying to optimize integrated graphics performance would be pretty stupid anyway.
