quigley0
I am new to the flight sim market, But I really enjoy the game. I have MSFS2004 and have downloaded alot of aircraft for it. I almost spend more time aquiring new aircraft then I do playing the game. Anyone else playing this game? What equipment do you use? All I have is an xBox controller connected through a USB adapter. :( Also, what are some good freeware sites to download aircraft, etc. Any other flight sim games I should be playing? (I have CFS3 as well)
Quboid
xBox controller? :x Get a decent joystick ... hell, get a crappy joystick, as long as it has twist action (assuming you don't want to buy ruddar pedals). My ruddar pedals arrived this morning, just in time for Santa to give me a Thrustmaster HOTAS Cougar tomorrow. I know what you mean about searching for aircraft. I just went looking for a Cirrus Design SR22 and ended up getting two Airbus A330-300's, an AN225, a BF109 and an F16. But no SR22, so if anyone knows where to get one, please reply! Sites: AV Sim - downloads don't work in Opera :( FS Nordic

quigley0
I heard the x-plane was really good. Is it better then msfs2004? Also, if I do get x-plane, I saw that they were on vs 7.3, or someting like that. But I have noticed that alot of planes were for vs 6.xx. Is x-plane backwards compatable with older aircraft?? Quboid
Heh, yeah stpark6985, wing one of those babies over here for Christmas, cheers. Seriously, anyone seen a downloadable one for FS2004 (or FS2002, planes are compatible).
ForkliftDude
yeah 6.x planes work in 7.x x-plane is definitely better than fs200x. highly accurate physics and all. graphics arent exactly the bomb, but if you're serious about flightsims, then physics > graphics. quigley0
is the hotas cougar joystick pretty good?? I thought I'd enjoy the game just fine with my xBox controller, but now I am looking for a little more realism. Not to mention more presise throtle control.... Jon
I guess I'm a FlightSim guru, it's pretty much all I do ;) The controler depends on the sim. If I'm flying a jet or a chopper. I use my Saitek X45 HOTAS. If it's a prop (ie ww2 sim) then I tend to use a MS Sidewinder stick for simplicity. The only problem is the position of the rudder (stick twist axis) isn't quite as conducive to stable flight. If you use MSN, add me ( jonrail@hotmail.com ) and we can chat more. LordHatrus
I new a guy who converted an actual figher-plane joystick to work with his computer through the MIDI port  .... but he was REALLY into flight simming.... and he actually flew planes, though..... Anywho, I bought a M$ SideWinder 3D Pro Plus like a billion years ago, and guess what, they're still selling 'em, for the same amount that I got it for.... This josticks outlasted 3 of my computers!!! It's ANCIENT!!! AND THEY STILL SELL IT........ weird.... anywho, it's nice.... Of course, I did have to go through a period of dinial, because I had given Microsoft even more money.... but hey.... my M$ joystick works FINE under linux.... Jon
MS Hardware rocks. BTW your friend was probably using the gameport functionality of the midi port. Joysticks used to work like that...
