Ps2 and Xbox

Recommended Posts

I currently have XBOX but i am considering buying PS2 as well. But i have questions. Will i be really dissapointed in graphic wise? is there a huge difference between xbox and PS2? I want to get PS2 for the variety of the games they have. But will those games really worth buying ps2? games like manhunt silent hill 3, winnin eleven 7 and many more? or do you think when i buy PS2 i will be very dissapointed even while playing the best games in PS2 that does not exist in XBOX? what do you guys think?

not a huge difference graphics wise

go for it man!

most bulls*** post ever, there is a big difference graphic wise. First of all Manhunt is comfirmed for Xbox by Rockstar, secondly Silent Hill 3 maybe coming to Xbox and winning elevan soccer is PES isnt it so that might be coming to Xbox, if I was you, I would stick with the Xbox. Save your money

Get what you want, but the PS2 is nearing the end of it's life.

The PS2 doesnt have bad graphics, but it doesnt have great graphics either. The PS2 lacks the ability to do much of the XBOX's tricks such as bump mapping, and full-scene antialiasing, plus it has nowhere near as much texture memory.

In fact Dreamcast games usually had better texture mapping then their PS2 equivelents.

Why dont you do some research and find out the difference for yourself? There are thousands of PS2 screen shots on the net, and there are thousands of PS2 reviews. All good game shops will have a PS2 on display, play one for yourself and see if you like it or not. Heck you can even hire (rent) a PS2 console and see if you like.

personally, i'd wait for a price drop. i love my ps2. its great. i have ps2 gc, and i think i may be getting xbox tomarrow. and for ps2, i've noticed a lot of games are only online for it (ex. all EA sports, tony hawks underground, etc)

I heard that rumor that the PS2 was dropping to $120 but I'm not sure about that.

I dunno, I don't consider the PS2 to have very good graphics either. Heck, even the stuff my DC pushed out was comparable or sometimes better. But still, if you have a lot of games you want to play that are only PS2 exclusive, might as well.

Alot of games are online but a vast majority dont play it online, not as many as Xbox Live

I've got a PlayStation 2 and I think it's equivalent to a Xbox.... maybe not tech-wise but if you compare it overall...

Xbox hasthe best GFX and you can do lots of things with it.. But the playstation 2 has way more games, nicer controllers (big deal for me!) and it's sony... :p and I like sony...

But anyways, like the people above me said, if you want to go for neat gfx, don't buy a PS2... if you want great games buy one ;) and I'd recommend you to look at screenshots too :)

Except people are forgetting, around 90% of games that are on PS2 come to the Xbox so I still reckon he is wasting his money :\

I've had an XBox and a Gamecube for quite a while now. I picked up a PS2 a month ago when EB was running that 2 titles for $25 thing. I picked up about 8 games for the PS2 that weren't available on any other platform (like Ratchet and Clank, Final Fantasy X, Kingdom Hearts, Devil May Cry, Jak and Daxter, etc...). So, I say go for it for the games.

I wouldnt get a ps2 now, way to old for that kind of money

also the pads feel tacky now xbox pads are so much better for driving games and fps. Also its games lineup its pretty bad, no decent games commin up for release.... it may have a lot more games than the xbox but 99.5% are pure trash. wait for the pc or xbox ports

and the graphics are pretty poor

Enh - I have both a PS2 and an XBox - and I've steadily been working on phasing out the PS2. The only advantage it has is the Sony hype. Otherwise, the system is decidedly dull and uninspired, IMHO. I keep it around solely for the few PS2 exclusives I play - which consist now of Smackdown, the Gundam games and Silent Hill 3 (though I'm done with the last.)

If you're insistant on getting a PS2, it's a tough call on whether or not you should get a new one. I hear the new revs are nice, but you can pick up an older used one for relatively cheaply too. Though, in my experience (and I'm now on PS2 #5, I think?) the hardware quality of the older PS2s is -very- poor. Even my current one, which is only about 6 months old or so is plagued with hardware problems, the DVD drive is already dying (won't read half of the DVDs I put into it, and a large percentage of games don't like to read either,) but I've decided it's just not worth trying to get fixed anymore.

Eh? 5 PS2's already? My brother and I have been using our PS2 since the day he got it (which was way back about 3 months after it was released) and we've run into no problems. Granted we only use it for about an hour a day and before that not as much but still, a console shouldn't break like that if you take good care of it.

The original PS on the other hand... ugh. The only console I've physically had to replace after about 2 years because the laser lens just wasn't happy anymore. It sucked playing Final Fantasy 8 and rushing to a save spot only to have the laser skip and my game reset

I say get a PS2. The graphical difference is there but it's not horrible. Also the PS2 has a lot of great games that the Xbox doesn't have (MegaMan X7, Rachet and Clank 1 and 2, Jak and Daxter 1 and 2, Devil May Cry 1 and 2, the .hack series, and a load more). I don't think you will be disapointed with it (in fact I think you'll love it).

Except one thing, Devil May Cry 2 sucks compared to DMC, just get the Xbox

The PS2 has disappointing graphics. Even back then it did. As someone said, the DC competed with it.

As for the PS2 having better graphics than an Xbox, uh, no. Sorry, but if you compare games that are cross-platform like GTA:VC, Soul Calibur II, and others you'll see that the Xbox kicks ass. In fact, EGM even said that the PS2 version of SC2 looked the worst.

First off, the PS2 is incapable of going over 480p. The Xbox can go up to 1080i (but only 3 games do this). A lot more games are coming out for the Xbox in 720p so how in the world could the PS2 look better at almost half the vertical resolution?

The Dreamcast can't compete with today's PS2 games. Problem was that Sony didn't give developers easy tools to work with initially. That combined the complicated architecture of the PS2 was why the early PS2 games had major visual issues.

Easier developer tools have since been released and developers have gotten used to the PS2's architecture, and the difference between early PS2 games and the current ones is dramatic.

(And the PS2 is capable of going higher than 480p. It can handle 525p, but that's actually a disadvantage since few television sets natively support 525p.)

Still, the Xbox is a more powerful console, so unless something is a quick and dirty port of a PS2 game, the Xbox game will at least look superior.

But it's all about the games. Major Western games are released for both PS2 and Xbox, but Japanese Xbox games are rare. Japanese games aren't as important as they used to be, but Metal Gear, Final Fantasy, Castlevania, Silent Hill, Kingdom Hearts, and the like are still major and will remain PS2-exclusive or PS2-first. And of course, Sony's first party games (Gran Turismo, Jak, Ratchet & Clank, SOCOM, et al) will never show up on the Xbox unless Sony Computer Entertainment goes the way of Sega.

Not to mention the 1000+ PSOne games. That gives the PS2, by far, a larger library of games than the Xbox, but those games are old, look terrible by today's standards, and are becoming increasingly difficult to find in stores; so that isn't as much of an advantage as people claim it is.
