MegaManXcalibur
Except one thing, Devil May Cry 2 sucks compared to DMC, just get the Xbox  I can't argue with that. But the rest of the games I listed are worth getting a PS2 over. In the end it only matters what kind of games he likes. Always base your purchase of a system on the games. If you like more games for the PS2 then Xbox then get the PS2, if you like more of the Xbox's games then get an Xbox.
krazeguy
Is Eye Toy out over there? - Lots of people are buying PS2 just for the camera technology, I thought its quite good and fun, but there is only 2 games for it and gets old sorta fast. Apart from eye toy, all the sony games and Gran Turismo 4 there isnt that many more games on ps2 that arnt on xbox, so u shud go into ur local games store and get a feel for both consoles, both consoles have online play now, execpt for xbox u MUST have broadband, xbox has a HDD and ps2 can have one as an expansion, another thing is also the controller pad, sum pple like the controls and feel of certain games. I have ps2 and have played xbox, and i prefer xbox graphics, but to be completely honest its just as much about games, like Counter-Strike for instance, not the best gfx but soo playable. Starman
The Xbox is a piece of ****, the best games are made for PS2 and the dead of Xbox is coming so far. Please back that bullsh*t statement up. If the Xbox is such crap, then why was it that 2 years in a row it got Game of the Year for (at the time) exclusive titles? Liquid
Playstation 2 is great, the graphisc aren't to great, but its just so fun. I think it has better online support than XBOX. Well kind of. broadband only games rock. I never liked XBOX live because of the fact you ahve to pay. Wait until the HDD comes out for PS2, then games should be getting alot better. Expessically onlien support for games. Great games on PS2 and not XBOX: ATV Offroad Fury 1+ 2 Rachet and Clank 1 + 2 Jax and Dakster 1 + 2 Gran Turismo 3 + 4 (soon) Time Crisis 2 +3 Final Fantasy X, X-2, XI(soon) EA Games have online support with PS2 Kingdom Hearts Alot more... Get the PS2, you won't regret it.

And playstation 2 has the games I like. But of course, if the game is out on PC as well, I get it on there, Like Max Payne 2 and Need for speed underground. One game I regret buying for pc instead of xbox or ps2 is Enter the matrix. :x the tires on teh cars are blocks

ienhz
Damn, I'm stuck deciding between the 2 as well. I'm thinking of going for the XBox though. I grew up with a PS1 and I love japanese games but I just think I don't have enough time to play the 80+ hrs of FF X. I would say if you like playing single player games, go for the PS2. If you have lots of people that come to your house get an XBox so you can play 4 players Halo or Cs or whatever. Beisdes the Final Fantasy games, Metal Gear Solid 3, and Gran Turismo, there isn't really much reason I'd pick the PS2. But I hope MGS3 is coming to XBox, since MGS2 was on it... Anyone know if it is?

I think think graphics in Madden are much sharper then XBOX... I have both consoles, and MAdden for both ......PS2 wins hands down.... Its all about the games.. syphern
well ps2 isnt that bad! lets compare 2 screens from xbox and ps2: 1 and 2 which one is ps2? 2... and i was looking at gt4 prologue screens and thats easily compared to project gotham 2 remember people its gameplay that ultimately counts... who still plays cs online now? and who still plays raven shield online? me i love my graphics i too am having trouble deciding what console to get... if the gamecube had dvd playback that would be a good choice too... so far im more towards the ps2 side only ONLY because of gt4 and thats it! btw which console is easier to mod guys? ie no soldering etc? and which one has more features unlocked once modded...? such a tough decision... i just hope to god they make a ps2 emulator before july- aug 2004! then its xbox all the way... Wizdon
If the Xbox is such crap, then why was it that 2 years in a row it got Game of the Year for (at the time) exclusive titles? The reason the Xbox got the exclusive titles is because Microsoft paid for them. I'm sure if given a non-monetarily influenced decision, the companies would have gone with PS2, because of the resulting higher game sales. I have a PS2, much better range of games, and cheap if you know how to shop for them. Although, I would like to purchase an Xbox, because games do look better on it (I used to be an Xbox fanboy!). eithyia
If I were the original poster.. ..I'd take a trip to a few stores that sold both the Xbox & PS2, and a few friends houses that own one or the other or both. Try them both out; see which controller setup you like better. Take a look at different (preferably exclusive) games on both, and get a feel for what it's offering that you won't be able to get anywhere else. Take a look at some games available on both systems, and see if there are any features that make one stand out over the other (for you personally). While someone might tell you that the Xbox version has better graphics, maybe you enjoy the control of the PS2 version more. Look at the price points; see which one fits within your budget. Not just on an initial purchase level, on a total cost-of-ownership level. For example, you can walk out of a store with an Xbox and a game, walk home hook it up and start playing. If you walked out of the store with a PS2 and a game, you'd need to trek back after forgetting to buy a memory card. If you tried to watch DVD's on your Xbox, you'd be trecking back for the DVD remote pack. If you want anything better than composite video, you'll be heading back for a set of S-Video/Component cables, or a Digital Audio cable, etc. So look at the total cost of the system, whatever accessory(ies) you might require, and the cost of games. At this stage in the game, many great titles for both system are in the Platinum/Greatest hits categories, so you're probably alright in that particular department. On a very generalized level, we can say that the PS2 has the most varied selection of games. It is after all, the number one selling console, and has the most software available for it. It has a controller that worked so well from the PS1 that they left it intact, aside from adding analogue capabilities to the buttons. If you are an RPG fan, the PS2 will certainly whet your appetite..and also if you enjoy heavily Japanese-influenced/developed titles. The Xbox has the best graphical output. Its controller options are purely a matter of taste - as we've seen over the past few years, some love it with an "OMGZ0rZZZZ" kind of reaction, and some wish they could tear it apart, throw it out the window, and **** on the smoking remains. The Xbox also has a fair variety of interesting titles..like Steel Battallions for example. Talk about interesting controller options..! If I had to pick a strength of the Xbox, I would say that lies in first-person shooters, and to a lesser degree, third person style adventures. It's a very subjective craft, picking a videogame system from a range of choices. In the end, you really have to get some hands on experience with both systems. After you've done that, you need to sit down with yourself, and figure out what kind of games you really enjoy playing, and what your budget is - and decide from there. No-one else can tell you what to pick - only you can do that. :) Good luck!
Fear the Pandaz
Alot of people forget that ps2 is a full year older than xbox and gamecube, so it'sa bit outdated. I have all three and I enjoy them all, but Xbox is by far the best. I wouldn't get ps2 now that GTA has been ported to the xbox :)
