I was just wondering what you guyz opinion on this issue is. Personally I'll never pay monthly for any game, 40-60 bucks for a game is enough for me, I'm not going to pay $10 a month to play online, I'll stick to the free ones. Its too much money wasted I think, I just hate that a lot of good games are comming out like this...I hope they all dont' go monthly play for multiplayer...I'll have no more games to play...

Yes i do, I play Starwars Galaxies, and ill be playing Final Fantasy 11 and Middle Earth Online when they come out,

Thing is they spend years developing the game so they should charge for the game AND to play it online since you have to buy the servers, buy the bandwidth, pay workers for the upkeep of the servers, pay workers for developing new content/fixing bugs,

$10/?10 a month is nothing, what will $2.50/$2.50 a week buy you these days, not something that will provide you endless replayability value i can tell you.

So yes i agree to paying monthly

I pay for my computer (and upgrades for it).

I pay for my internet connection.

I pay for the game itself.

I pay for the electricity to power my computer.

I will not pay monthly fees just so I can play the game with my friends.

I play a few MMORPGs and I enjoy every second I play. I really get my $10 dollars a month out of it. I do think that if your going to charge for games the software itself should be cheaper. That way if you dont like it in your free month your not stuck with a $50 coaster because you cant play offline.

I find it stupid paying for the game and THEN pay to play it. That's not right

You dont get it do you, if they didnt charge you to play then there would be no server to play on, well at least not over a long period of time,

I hate the mentality of some people thesedays, its a wonder developers even bother.

Bull**** (excuse my language). What do you mean there would be no servers? Why dont they take that $40-50-60 bucks we spend, and make the servers? You know how much of a rip off games really are? How much does it cost to make a cd and then burn it? And they are charging us 50-60 bucks a pop. Dude, they can afford it.

Exactly. Do you realize how much profit these companies are making?! I bet you don't because you probably can't imagine that much wealth. Buying new server is pocket change to these companies. There are still servers running for NOX which came out in 1999, Diablo II is still running servers and the still are UPGRADING the freakin game, and I don't pay monthly for them!! MechWarrior 4 still has servers, Warcraft 3 still has servers, for Gods' sake Tiberian Sun still has servers! Paying monthly for games only increases what is going into the companies pockets, you actually think they put all that money towards servers/game development? No they don't, and you can argue that they do til your blue in the face, but you'll never be right. Companies rape us for games as it is, a cd is a penny to buy and the couple years that goes into making it (although a long time) isn't worth the millions they make off new games released. I'm sorry but there is no reason to pay for playing, and there never will be.

not nearly that much money goes to the developers. not much is left after the publishers are paid, as much of it goes to marketing and other similar things. and MMOs are pay to play just because of the servers, they are constantly adding to them, whether it be new content, features, or balancing whats already there. most games can be done with all of this right away, but MMOs have to keep a team working on it if they want it to be successful.

im not saying its worth your money to play an MMO, thats entirely up to you. im just trying to say how they cannot spend much of the original money on the actual servers. also keep in mind most MMOs dont end up with an actual profit until well after release with all of the subscription money. they spend a whole lot of time and money developing these games.

yes but that is for 1 game. What if you play 5 or more games? That is ?50+ a month (which is roughly $88).

I don't know many people who can afford to spend that sort of money on just playing a few games online!

Xbox Live is an ok deal. X amount per year for all online games. Companies like EA, etc. need to do that so you can play all EA online games for one set price per year. Much better than monthly charge but the companies don't get as much money that way.

My opinion is..

Paying for online gaming is fine, it is something I expected now so many people have broadband and are using more and more bandwidth and more and more people are playing on the servers so they need to be more powerful, etc. However pay monthly is bad (for the users not for the companies!). Like I said Xbox Live is probably the best thing and I hope other companies do the same.

oh yeah, my post is referring to MMO games. i am fulling willing to pay monthly for some of the RPGs, but dont know that i will ever for other games. and i cant picture myself playing many of them at the same time, so i dont mind the fee.

Thing is you mentioned all those games that dont have persistent worlds, THATS why they charge you to play on them, server space, bandwidth, wages etc..

Nope. I refuse to pay any subscription to play a game online. I mean I already paid $50 for the game and now they want a subscription? Screw them I'll go somewhere else. At least that's how I feel about it.
