volrathxp
I don't know if anything out there is just like Winamp 5, I've heard that the Nullsoft team is working on a Linux port of Winamp 5 though, which would be awesome.

kemical
i think he's looking for a media player that uses a variety of skins not just xmms or winamp2 skins the winamp5 port to linux would be sweet
Tek
the winamp5 port to linux would be sweet The Linux port of Winamp 3 sucked so much that they stopped doing it. I don't think we'll see a Linux port of Winamp 5.
metal_dragen Veteran Posted December 30, 2003 Veteran Share Posted December 30, 2003 The Linux port of Winamp 3 sucked so much that they stopped doing it. I don't think we'll see a Linux port of Winamp 5. Honestly though, Winamp 3 sucked so much (aside from the skins) that most people went back (or never switched to begin with) to 2 or downloaded the alphas and betas of 5. I've run 5 and it is definitely a big speed improvement over 3, though it is still not as fast as 2, though I expect that is partly due to the freeform skinning engine. dmd3x
I don't really think skins are that important. I just care about performance. But that's just me :p
splatnix
If you truely want to run a Winamp5 for the skins - yes - it works with wine. While running it on my laptop (PII-400/192MB/nm256av) it got a little jittery (I just did it to see if I could) and used @30% CPU; on a better suited machine, it should not run with problems. One problem I did see is that when you minimalise the EQ and Playlist windows, they are 2 rows tall instead of the 1 row they should be - so it's fugly. I don't have a clue on WA3 skins, as it was bombing out and I wasn't all that concerned (I use XMMS anyway - so it didn't much matter to me).
