~Bull}{Dog~
Try some other games/servers. If its the same for everything then give your ISP a call.
DigitalN.
yeah, Bull Dog got most of it, BUT, update your LAN drivers, update your mobo drivers, update your vid card drivers and flash your bios
quigley0
Yeah, it could a myriad of things. If you have a router, OS, etc. I know that Verizon DSL has that crappy WINpoet software for win 2000/98. Also, just out of curiosity, do you get bad Pings in-game? Or when you view your games list? When I had DSL (I now have cable) alot of my games listed were all in red (meaning bad), but when I played it was fine, 60 - 120 ping. In steam, you can specify area location in the filter. If you are eastcoast/westcoast US, europe, etc. You may want to try that, or, make sure it is off and not specified to a location away from where you live. (Like, if you live in NY, you dont want the filter in europe.)
bayrider
make sure u also refresh the individual servers because Steam is getting info from hudreds of servers at once so it may appear u have high ping.
machima
I've encountered this problem many a time. Look in the Monitor tab on the Steam Menu, there will more than likely be games updating themselves, this is what is causing the lag for you. This is due to the new "Trickle Updating" system where the games download all the files secretly THEN install it. If you do infact see games Updating, then just leave Steam open for a while until they're done. Then all will be good and you will be able to play with Low Pings again.
