MrStaticVoid
I think GNOME-DB will do something like that...check out www.gnome-db.org for more information.
markwolfe Veteran Posted December 27, 2003 Veteran Share Posted December 27, 2003 I think that the new OpenOffice.org currently in the works will have an MS Access compatible program to go with it. Not sure of the compatibility level, or WHEN it is coming out... Check out OpenOffice.org website. If you NEED true MS Access compatibility, I would recommend using Code Weavers CrossOver Office. It is an advanced wine that is built specifically to run the FULL MS Office suite. Including Visual Basic macros (I think).
JadeWolf324
can u run actual VB6 IDE app with CrossOver Office?
Argonaut
current open office comes without the database, although, version 5.1 I think, does come with "adabas" but sun doesnt give links to 5.1 anymore.....
markwolfe Veteran Posted December 27, 2003 Veteran Share Posted December 27, 2003 can u run actual VB6 IDE app with CrossOver Office? I could not find anything on their web page about VB or macros. They may be functional, as CrossOver Office installs all the .DLLs that normally get installed. If they do work, things like viruses that use macros would not be nearly as functional as they are on MS machines, as this still uses Linux file security/permissions/etc. :D
AntBug
Open Office doesn't have a database. But I think Star Office (the pay version of open office) comes with a database prog. Other than that, I do not know of anything. :(
Selraich
You can give this a shot, recently GPL'ed Rekall.
neowin_hipster
http://firebird.sourceforge.net/ Try firebird relational db. If that's the wrong thing, i'm sorry, beceause i have no clue what access actually does. I used it in grade 9 many years ago but it stinks. +BudMan MVC Posted December 28, 2003 MVC Share Posted December 28, 2003 hey "thepuc" how about putting your avatar in location that does NOT ask for auth to access, or fixing the url? Like uploading it to neowin for starters? Openoffice has some report writing features for MySQL, and is quite easy to access using it. What exactly do you NOT understand about MySQL or PostgreSQL ?? There are plenty of interfaces to make database creation/manipulation easier for the beginner. MyphpAdmin comes to mine, webmin has modules for both, etc.. etc.. Access to the data is always just a ODBC away - what exactly are you trying to do??
Clete2
Uh, shoot me if I'm wrong, which I probably am, but aren't you looking for PostgreSQL or MySQL? (excuse the post-whatever spelling),

aldo
Write a PHP script to emulate what you'd want to do with access. It takes very little work and in a day you can have a fully functioning replacement for Access, with forms, queries and reports.
+BudMan MVC Posted December 30, 2003 MVC Share Posted December 30, 2003 you're an ass And your a D_CK!!! So what does that have to do with the poster having his avatar in a location that asks for auth? What exactly was I an ass about in my post? I asked for more info, agreed that openoffice has some report writing stuff. And told the person not to put his avatar in a location that can not be accessed without permission?? What is wrong with that - YOU D_CK!!!
UKer
You can give this a shot, recently GPL'ed Rekall. I'de recommend Rekall also, works just like Access but uses SQL databases, and has loads of good features. Otherwise PGAccess is a frontend for PostgreSQL that does a similar (but IMO not as good) job as Rekall.

+BudMan MVC Posted December 31, 2003 MVC Share Posted December 31, 2003 do you even proofread your posts, look at how you come off when you reply to posts... get a grip Like I said - your a D_CK. Yup proofread it - exactly what I wanted to say. Now I could of used DI_K vs D_CK - but "D_CK" works for me, and gets my message across nicely - and exactly as intended ;) If you read something into my posts - that is NOT there, that is your problem. I am not here to make you happy, if you do not like the tone of my posts. Then your free NOT to read them. Or maybe read them while on your meds vs off, did the voices in your head tell you that my post had hidden meaning? I called the person with the offending avatar by the name used in the url to the avatar. And gave a suggestion on where he could put his avatar as so not have to deal with auth problems, link permissions, etc.. etc... Exactly what is wrong with that? Which by the way is still not corrected - how hard is it? <--- Now there is "TONE" - did you catch that? If you read something into it - thats your PROBLEM, not mine! And calling me an "A_S" for something you think you read "INTO" my post is pretty RUDE if you ask me. Maybe you just have a slight case of paranoia - and see stuff that is not there. But calling me an "AS_" because you did not like some tone you perceived in my post is not very NICE, now is it?
