Mantra Locust
I'm not familure with Battlefield 1942, though I saw it for a great deal uptown earlier today, so I was wondering, does a lot of people play this? Are there a lot of mods available? How does it differ from games like RtCW or Counter Strike? What's the game play like? The more possitive comments I see, the better the chance of me buying it and vice versa :)
Liquid
This game is soo good, i own it and play it daily. Make sure you get the Desert Combat mod. In Battlefield 1942, you can use vehicles such as tanks, aircraft, boat, submarine, and jeeps. The levels are massive and its incredibly fun. DC Mod = www.desertcombat.com In desert combat you play in new age war, with jets, humvee's, newer tanks, dune buggies, helicopters, and other vehicles. I'd say, buy it, you will enjoy. Make sure you pay the extra few $ for deluxe as you get the Road to Rome expansion with it.

Yeah, that was what I was going to get if I was to buy it. Is there any other decent mods besides the Desert Combat Mod, and how large it the player base? What's normally the player limit on servers? How long does a game usually last?
robert_palson
oh there are tons of mods go here ... bf1942files check out all the different mods and other goodies ... but the desert combat mod is the best IMO players limit is like 64 players max i think games vary on length depending on what type of game you play weather its ctf or other Player base ..... A big one!!!!
Mantra Locust
Isn't there a Halo-like mod being developed for it, I could have been sure I saw one on here a few days ago...

Chadwick
if you have a decent system, get DC, if not, your screwed because the dev's dont give a **** about the people who meet the minimum requirements to play the game, and the mod runs horrible on nearly all systems that are more than a year or so old. DigitalN.
hellz no chadwick! my PC is hella old and this game runs like da shizzle. (runs great) on a P3 1Ghz and an nVidia TNT2 64 megger
A10
What are your graphics and sound settings the game does run a bit better on Nvidia cards because they're shacking up with EA a TNT2 64MB never heard of that only cards I've seen thus far only go up to 32MB. BF1942 is varily addicting I play it as much as I can, but I just got NFS:U for X-mas, and it's taken my attention away from 42'. Desert Combat is a great mod though I do agree some optimizing of the textures, and such is sorely needed it runs like crap on slower machines. The newest version .06 looks very tasty new choppers like the little bird:cool:, and finally a new aircraft carrier sucks though I have to wait for another week and a half before I can download it at work(T1) I'd try at home though my phone line might tell me to go take a hike. I'd buy it you won't regret the purchase more so if it's on sale.
sonicvibe
Earlier this month, i bought the Deluxe pack.. boy, did i get addicted. Recently, my friend recommended downloading desert combat.... ohh man... now i'm really addicted. Instead of playing every other day, i'm now playing this awesome game + mod around twice a day. And to think, i just got an ethernet adaptor and socom 2 for my ps2 for xmas. Sigghh... soo many good games, so little time. On a side note, i'm planning to upgrade my radeon 8500 sometime soon (probably around my birthday since it's next month). Which do you guys think is the best bang for the buck? a radeon 9600 pro or the XT version (as you can see, i'm trying to stay below the 200 dollar mark). I'm prepping myself for the bada*# games coming to our PCs this coming year (half life 2, doom 3, etc.) Hope everyone has an awesome new year! TheLegendOfMart
I still play it, like someone said you need a good spec pc, my XP 2200+ struggled a bit till i whacked 512mb in it, now it flies
nuka_t
if you have a decent system, get DC, if not, your screwed because the dev's dont give a **** about the people who meet the minimum requirements to play the game, and the mod runs horrible on nearly all systems that are more than a year or so old. the devs are focusing on vehicles and weapons now. they said that there are too many wasted polygons in their current skins and when they finish the main development they will go and optimize the skins and models. but your right it takes about twice as long as bf to load. worth it though. Chode
The Halo mod is called "Homefront"...find it here Desert Combat 0.6 has major issues.....I can play it normal for hours but the second an opposition jet gets within 100 meters of me my frame rate will drop to around 5fps, and remain there despite what is happening in game (even if the jet is gone and I'm the only player in a 12km radius!!!!) until I quit and restart the game. (for the curious, I have 512MB Ram and a GeForce 4 Ti 4800) This game (BF1942) is only decent when played against real people....the AI sucks too much in Single player... not that I could do any better, but the bots are still lame. the devs are focusing on vehicles and weapons now. they said that there are too many wasted polygons in their current skins and when they finish the main development they will go and optimize the skins and models. but your right it takes about twice as long as bf to load. worth it though. Very bad form for modding...when they start to adversely drop the polycounts of their models the odds are extremely high that they will need to resetup UVW maps and/or re-texture the lot of it. It would have been a) easier and b) more professional to optimise as they go. Truth is that they're never gonna do their optimisations now. Timan Veteran Posted December 29, 2003 Veteran Share Posted December 29, 2003 Yea .6 is release where they jammed everything in it, hope the next one will be bug n optimizations only patch. They got enough vehicles as it is,

Fear the Pandaz
I don't own the game but I play it a ton when I go to my friend's. The online mode is worth the money alone. Team killing :-D
