Arpit
if i uninstall office xp pro, and then install office xp developer...would my e-mails be erased??...or will they be just like they way they were before??....is there any way to back them up/archive them so they can be restored later?...the only way that i know of, is by saving each e-mail as a *.txt file, and i find that a bit inefficient...so, please tell me if there's a way around it...thanks! Fonzie
Hey, I usually back up my emails from Outlook Express6 by searching for *.dbx in the Windows search facality. I'm not quite sure about the Office XP though. So excuse me if I have mislead you, Syntax Error ;) But you could try to search for the same extensions as I did. mtgriffith
The .pst file is a Personal Folders file. Unless you told Outlook to put it somewhere else the default location is in your user profile. Find it and make a copy of it. I don't think it will be deleted when you uninstall but it never hurts to be on the safe side. If the new install doesn't automatically pick it up (which I think it will) you can use the import/export wizard to import it back in. Click File, Import and Export. Choose Import from another program or file. Scroll down and choose Personal Folder File (*.pst) Locate the file. Tell it to include subfolders. Done. Bain
In Outlook 2000 what you'll do is go to File > Archive > Personal Folders and then simply make sure that you've got the box that says "this folder and all sub folders" checked. Then just browse to the place that you would like the file saved to and click save. Now when you want to re-open the file with all your Outlook data you'll simply go to File > Open > Outlook Data File Done :)
Roger H. Veteran Posted January 31, 2002 Veteran Share Posted January 31, 2002 or do it the simple way.. that outlook XP icon on your desktop.. just right click ti and choose properties... then data files then click OPEN folder and it takes you straight there... just copy the file Outlook.PST and you're set. If you uninstall outlook though you wouldn't look your settings and or emails but just do that before you try anything... Simple huh! :) Oh and how much did you "pay" for the develper version and what's better or what else is included over professional version? mtgriffith
Minimum Requirements Computer/Processor Computer with a Pentium III 133-megahertz (MHz) or higher processor That was obviously a typo but have you noticed how Microsoft's system requirements are always really low? I wish they would tell us what the system really needs to be so people won't try to run programs they can't.

Well thanx for point that out captain obvious! HAHA... you remind me of my friends who have to be logical about everything and can't laugh at other peoples mistakes... they always try to find a reason something happened! hehe... Anyways.. i'm not starting no wars but yeah.. i have noticed that though... i understand why too but a 133mhz! i wouldn't even dare run notepad on that! HAHA i would just let that be a network server or something... 133mhz is plent enough since it would only be doing simple stuff like internet traffic and file back up.. for 1 person so 133mhz wouldn't be such a big pain in the ass... i actually have one too :)
Arpit
thanks guys! shotta35...i paid for it just as much as i've paid for the rest of the MS products...$0.00 :D...what's better...umm...well, it has everything that pro has (except for special edition, which includes publisher, and frontpage *i think*) + developer tools...i don't know what they're for, but i'll learn...
Arpit
btw...i've tried to make those *.pst files and then tried to import them, but all it did was import the folders, not the e-mails...any idea why that could be?
MxxCon
dude, don't take it as a flame, but frankly if you can't figure out how to back up your outlook email i don't think you'll be needing/using office developer tools much:ermm:

nartac
BTW, this is an automate program that will back up your Personal Folders ie. your emails and stuff. It will remind u to back up the PF the days the u can configure. Try it. I am happy with it. You may consider this Office 2000/XP backup program at : http://www.genie-soft.com/products/ob2000x...p/ob2000xp.html but it sucks and with a fee (it screws up my address book when i import)
