einsteinbqat
According to ThinkSecret, "Apple CEO Steve Jobs will focus on the release of new low-end, 'mini iPods' and a major update to its iLife digital ensemble at his Macworld Expo keynote address on January 6 in San Francisco, Calif." "Reliable sources inside and outside of Apple have confirmed Apple will announce the new pocket-size iPods in a number of capacities and in various colors, including stripes. Capacities will be 2 and 4GB -- meaning users could store some 400 and 800 songs, respectively. Prices will start at around $100US, Think Secret has learned. It is not known if the new product line will be available immediately after introduction." (There should also be body colors for classic iPod, too.) Liquid
I'm hoping for a price cut in the standard iPod as well... don't count on it ;) remember its apple, they don't compete against anyone. If they ddi, the iPod would play WMA and have probably 10x battery life. On the other hand, they are working on the battery life.

AdamKnowles
^^ They are still magnetic storage devices so why exactly are they not in the same leauge? In price and performance wise the mini ipod will steal the market, which would you buy, a minipod which holds 2gb for $100 or an mp3 cdplayer that holds 700mb and costs $100 I know which i would buy. giga Veteran Posted December 29, 2003 Veteran Share Posted December 29, 2003 Kind of old news. Anyhow, many people did not get an ipod for xmas this year because of the price. Common fact, most people dont get an ipod because of the high price. These things will sell like suckers. Price cut...hopefully..slim chance though. Yeah, it's apple. :s But, IF they do release a 4th gen of the current models, price cut it is. But i'd rather get those instead of the old 3g. Dazzla Veteran Posted December 29, 2003 Veteran Share Posted December 29, 2003 But it's not unlimited because you'd have to carry around a load of CD's and that sucks. A MP3 CD player is just way too large for me, I'd imagine that something like a mini iPod or other similar device would be nice and small, as well as flash based players (although they don't have enough capacity). Dazzla Veteran Posted December 29, 2003 Veteran Share Posted December 29, 2003 It uses CDs as media, there's a limit to how small it can be so if I'm listening to music at work then a CD player is too large.
altus
I agree with Dazzla ? size and the necessity of carrying CDs with me are the main reasons I hate CD players. Let's face it, CD's arsoi> early 90s! 1. To me, CD players are big, no matter what you say. For some people that's alright, and that's their preference, which I respect. My iPod is less than half the size of any portable CD player (area-wise). It doesn't matter how thin CD players get, it's still carrying a big, round pancake around with you that doesn't fit into most (if any at all) pockets. 2. CDs get scratched easily, especially if you shuffle them a lot. I don't feel like burning new CDs all the time, just because they eventually wear out from everyday handling (natural thing). 3. Often on the train there's no physical room to reach in your backpack to pull out both the player and the CD wallet, let alone trying to find the four hands necessary to hold on and change the CD at the same time. Besides, the idea of carrying a backpack so you can have your CD player and CDs with you, as someone suggested, is simply ridiculous. 4. I really don't see myself burning endless combinations of songs just to suit my mood, which changes all the time, just so I don't have to change the CD when I sudenly want to listen to a song I just remembered. I simply love the idea of having ALL of my songs instantly accessible at my fingertip, all in a box smaller than a deck of cards. 5. To have all my music with me using an MP3 CD player, I would have to carry over 60 CDs with me all the time ? just think about how huge and heavy this would be! When I compare that to my small and lightweight 40GB iPod, the choice becomes obvious. Xab
Don't expect Apple to cut the price on the iPods anytime soon. It's no secret that they lose money on the Music Store, and the only reason they keep it up and develop iTunes for free is the cashflow they get from the iPods, something like $100+ profit each. What's even funnier is that every response you make to anyone involves the rhetoric "are you stupid?" or "are you dumb?", gosh dude, its like you can't post a response without insulting someone. I guess after 7,000 posts you run out of things to say...

If you don't feel like blowing a lot of money on an iPod (which I completely understand), you can still get one of the cheaper hard disk?based players, like the Creative Zen, the Samsung Napster player, or the Dell DJ ? they all offer similar, if not better (for some people) features, same capacities and a price tag much that's much easier on the wallet. My father just ordered a 20GB Dell DJ for $279 with free shipping, which I think is a steal on a 20GB player like this. Nobody's forcing you to buy Apple products when there are so many other competetive players on the marke;) ;)
